Lexus GX 470 (2004) fuel gauge and/or range readout malfunction intermittently

We have an 04 GX-470. Most of the time the fuel gauge and the range readout work OK. However, sometimes, the fuel gauge works, but the range shows 0 miles, or they both don't work - fuel gauge shows empty and range = 0. My wife says she thinks she's seen the gauge = empty but the range still showing *** miles - I haven't seen that. We've been to 2 different Lexus dealers, paid for diagnostics at both and gotten no fix. In fact, they have both said they can't find anything wrong. But thanks for your money...... To my way of thinking, these would both get their initial information from the same source - some sort of sender unit on the fuel tank. However, as both gauges do not always go out together, I'm inclined to think that this probably isn't the cause. I would think that the range readout comes from some calculations done by the onboard computer. Anyone else experienced this? Is VERY frustrating as we regularly drive from Phoenix to Sacramento.

I have a 2007 IS 250 and I am completely in love with my car. The inside is very plush and the overall feel is of QUALITY. Lexus is high end and they live up to it in this car. The engine is buttery smooth and silent and has plenty of power. The paddle shift is cool on the freeways and hills and the looks I get in the car are great too. Unlike the Euro counterparts, which are also nice inside and fun to drive, the Lexus will stay running and cost you much less in repair cost and agitation. I have had Audi and BMW in the past and I can safely say that I will probably never drive anything other than Lexus from now on.

The bulbs are replaceable you need to remove the instrument gauge assembly to get to the bulbs.As for the blinking o/d light that usually means there is a problem.That should be looked at by some one with diagnostic tools.

The only way to check why the check engine light is on is to have autozone or a mechanic put a scanner on the car and read the engine codes. This will tell you exactly what is wrong. Many part stores will test it for free. Mechanics will charge about $40 But you will definately know exactly what the problem is.

If gauge is fine and car smells hot. It is probably due to plugged exhaust unless you have a wire laying on the exhaust manifold and it's melting.

wild guess transmission range fails on the cluster??????????
car drives ok, not told , job 1. yes/no.
well we scan the PCM (means OBD2 port on dash) scan TOOL.
and see why.?
causes are (but the error matters) DTC
1: lost comms from TCM to PCM and cluster brains.
2: transmission PRNDL switch fails but does car drive oK>?
3: wiring related to all that failing.
4: check fuses for blown?

I have a 2000 Lexus rx300 with a code p1130. what is the location of the sensor causing this code ?

That code doesn't mean any sensor is defective, it can be the sensor, problems with the engine or a faulty fuel injector or the wiring or the engine control computer that triggered the fault.

Guages not working,

If all voltages checked ok,then most probably its faulty instrument cluster board on which gauges are connected.Yes if cluster circuit board looks ok,then also it can be faulty.Somewhere there is minute short or burn on board then such prolem arises.
Also check the fuse box.One under hood and other under dash.Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.

No guages working

Also check the fuse box. One under hood and other under dash.

Inspect each and every fuse and see if all are fine or not.
