Did you try a pick-a-part junkyard ?

They have old wrecked cars, you go there tell'em what you need, they quote you a price, (pay a nominal fee to get in usually,) then you go and walk the lot looking for your car, and see if it still has an undamaged front seat. You have to dis-assemble and remove the part yourself. Usually there are no refunds if you install it and it does not work, so with electronic parts you take a bit of a risk.

the next time anything major fails on my '99 Grand Prix I will likely have to do the same.

Remove the 3 screws in the plastic sheilding on each side of the seat (front corner, middle side and back corner (under a little bit of carpet)). This will make it easier to get to the four bolts that hold the seat cushion base to the motor frame. There are a handful of electrical connections running from the base to the seat and then to other points (2 to the seat belt area, 1 to the base of the seat and 2 to the bottom of the seat frame near the right rear corner). None of these will prevent the motors from operating.

I am working on a replacement motor that will come with a new gear/shaft on it. I have one of my setups in the car right now and have the parts for another one ordered. I hope to make a video of the repair in a couple weeks when the parts show up. Still uses plastic gears, but these are larger, more durable gears and the swap is fairly straight forward with just a few modifications.

Driver power saet in a 2001 ford expedition dont

Either the switch is bad, or the motor athat goes forward and back is bad. A mechanic will need to check it with a diagram to determine which.

Driver's seat stuck. Lumbard support works,

HI. There are only two causes for this particular issue. The most common will be a failed switch assembly. This should be located on the side of the drivers seat. This switch is responsible for transferring the movement commands to the actual motor/gear assembly, which is located on the rail structure under the seat in question. If your lumbar section is responding to commands, but the others fail, this will lead to a failed switch circuit. the entire switch board will need to be replaced, in this case.

Now, if you command the set to move forward, and all you hear is the motor running , but no movement, this will lead to a failed gear assembly. This will be the second cause of no forward/backwards movement. In this case, the entire motor/gear assembly will need to be replaced, due to the fact that the gears are not sold separately. The are shipped as a kit with the motor.

It is required that you order this type of replacement part directly from the dealership.

  • NOTE_ I have seen in most cases that the there was jam, due to pieces of the gear assembly breaking off, and jamming up the mechanism. in order to properly inspect for damage of this nature, it will be necessary to remove the seat.

Six way power driver seat bottom does not adjust up or down.

it can only be 2 things, either the switch is bad or the motor in the transmission is bad, both parts are a common failure so u must test each to determine which is at fault, do u have a 12 volt test light? if not get one, about $6 from any parts store like Kragen, Autozone and others, raise the seat as high as possible and disconnect the motor that is inop, (be careful not to break the connector locks) push the switch to operate that motor in one direction (up for this test), the test light should light, then move the test light to the other terminal of the connector and press the switch for down, again the test light should light, if the lights go on as described then the motor is the problem and if they don't the switch is the problem.
