Won't go into gear, won't move

My car was loosing power recently and not grabbing the gear to go, somtimes it would take a while for it to go and get into gear. Yesterday I was driving and I hear a grinding crackling noise and it won't move now. IT will start and sometimes go into gear but it won't go forward or backwards. It seems to be on the drivers side. My husband took off the wheel and turned the rotor and it made this scraping grinding noise. First I started my car in the morning and it made a winding noise. my transmiossion fliud was low. Then it road of for a while. Then one day I went to drive and the car stopped in gear and won't move, not even in neutral. My husband had to put it in drive past the stuck point and forced it to move. My car won't engage in any gear, he had to force it from park to drive again and again and then he forced it past the stuck point to move it. IT kept doing this over and over. I don't think it's the transmission but may be. Possible axel or axel drive shaft or something. Please help me diagnose this if it's the transmission or the axel.

Sounds like you have destroyed the transmission low fluid and not going into gear, without a vin or comment from you about it being an automatic or not. When the wheel is removed the brakes will make scraping noise, as the calipers are help in place by the wheel on some models. You may get luck and have a bad drive shaft but would be very obvious by looking at them if it was stopping it from moving. If the transmission is automatic check the fluid if its brown and smells like onions then the fluid is burnt and you have destroyed the transmission rear tail shaft so it would be junk. A picture of the axles would help to tel you more with the wheels off.

Hi Bruce, the transmission fluid in not brown and is still full. It is an automatic and my vin number is 2G1WH55K039109930. Before the non movement and grinding sound began it was hard form me to put my gear selector into gears. Some say that it may be my linkage that has broken.

Sounds like the transmission.. If the axel was broke most likely it would still go into gear quite easy.. Bad axel would cause bad shimmy in front end.. Suggestion would be to take to a transmission shop and have checked out..

My 1998 Honda civic ex won't move but the motor

Have you just replaced the clutch? Taken out the transaxle, and put it back in? Are you sure transmission was in good condition before this? If so, review your procedure carefully to be sure you got it all back right.
Watch the slave cylinder while someone depresses clutch. You should see the little plunger move slightly out and move the clutch lever back. The lever moves the release bearing inside bell housing into contact with the pressure plate. If slave cylinder doesn't move at all, try bleeding again. The plunger has to move when clutch is engaged.
I'm not sure what you mean by "will shift but won't go into gear". You mean it's actually going into a gear position and car won't move? Or it won't go into any gear, period. As if you had no clutch?

Your Have to check your clutch lining it might be worn out. Your have to call mechanic to do this job because he will put down the entire transmission to replace that parts. This Problem Call Clutch Sliding.

GEAR SHIFT STUCK IN PARK HAVE NO BRAKE LIGHTS

check the fuses as if the brake light fuse is blown it won`t allow the shifter to move out of park.it has a shift interlock system so the gear shift won`t accidentally be moved out of park by mistake.

Gear got stuck in nuetral, and in park position in the dashboard and the vehicle won't move--this is my problem on my 2003 trailblazer suv.

It may be the gear selector switch on the tranny where the linkage bolts on its a odd shaped plastic peace you can see if its broke or loose.

96 pontiac grand prix gear shift moves but wont go into gear unless you move the car by hand then it clicks and will shift

Are you saying the automatic transmission will not shift into gear or the shifter won't move into the correct position?

It sounds like you have transmission problems but it could be that your linkage is loose or defective. Not enough information to give you a good starting place.

My ford windstar1998 gear won`t go into park even that the neddle say it in park, so my car won`t start.

Does the shifter feel loose and sloppy? Sometimes the bracket comes loose that the shift cable is attached to. If it isn't loose check the cable end at the trans under the brake booster.
