My car was loosing power recently and not grabbing the gear to go, somtimes it would take a while for it to go and get into gear. Yesterday I was driving and I hear a grinding crackling noise and it won't move now. IT will start and sometimes go into gear but it won't go forward or backwards. It seems to be on the drivers side. My husband took off the wheel and turned the rotor and it made this scraping grinding noise. First I started my car in the morning and it made a winding noise. my transmiossion fliud was low. Then it road of for a while. Then one day I went to drive and the car stopped in gear and won't move, not even in neutral. My husband had to put it in drive past the stuck point and forced it to move. My car won't engage in any gear, he had to force it from park to drive again and again and then he forced it past the stuck point to move it. IT kept doing this over and over. I don't think it's the transmission but may be. Possible axel or axel drive shaft or something. Please help me diagnose this if it's the transmission or the axel.
Sounds like you have destroyed the transmission low fluid and not going into gear, without a vin or comment from you about it being an automatic or not. When the wheel is removed the brakes will make scraping noise, as the calipers are help in place by the wheel on some models. You may get luck and have a bad drive shaft but would be very obvious by looking at them if it was stopping it from moving. If the transmission is automatic check the fluid if its brown and smells like onions then the fluid is burnt and you have destroyed the transmission rear tail shaft so it would be junk. A picture of the axles would help to tel you more with the wheels off.
Sounds like the transmission.. If the axel was broke most likely it would still go into gear quite easy.. Bad axel would cause bad shimmy in front end.. Suggestion would be to take to a transmission shop and have checked out..
