if your key is a transonder key wich has chip in it give it a couple of minutes to reset the code keep key in ignition and wait to see if it reads key or try another key and see if you have sameproblem make sure you unlock steering wheel disconnecting batteryfor posts might have reset car computer and cannot read ur key...
before you do that , if it is an automatic , check your neutral start switch. to answer your question , no you do not have to pull the steering wheel . You will have to pull the upper and lower steering column covers behind the steering wheel to access to the ignition switch assembly.
there is whats called a fuseable link on the + side of the battery taht may have burnt out over time!
bst get a auto electrician or a mechanic to come over & test it for you
