Speedometer, Odometer, Trip Odometer stopped working

I was on the interstate yesterday with cruise control on, I was going up a steep hill and my engine revved up to about 4000 rpm with cruise control on. All of a sudden my cruise control light started flashing and I stopped accelerating. I hit the gas and was still getting power, but my speedometer, odometer, and trip odometer stopped working. Now when I start the car my overdrive light flashes for about 10-15 seconds. Any ideas what this could be? The car is still driving fine.

Yesterday my Buick Century Special (2002) suddenly accelerated on the interstate (while going up a steep hill). The cruise control was not turned on and only hard, hard braking and putting the car into neutral and then turning off the ignition got it stopped before topping the hill and going down the other side. I had it towed home and the tow truck driver opened up the hood and said both throttle cables seemed to be working fine. He disconnected the cruise control. I am afraid to drive it again. 165,000 miles. Please advise. Thank you.

Yes the transmission speed sensor has most likely failed, to confirm this have a trouble code test run

Transmission speed sensor

You could have a faulty speedometer/odometer combination meter causing a false Vehicle Speed Sensor error.
My 1998 Sienna had the following symptoms:
- Speedometer and odometer failed intermittently
- The check engine light would come on and I would get a p0500 code in the OBDII.
- The cruise control would stop working at the same time the speedometer failed.
There is a speed sensor in each one of the tires and they feed the speed information to the ABS ECU. From the ABS ECU the speed signal goes to the speedometer/odometer combination meter, and from there it goes to the Engine Control Module and to the Cruise Control ECU. I could see a signal coming into the speedometer/odometer, but no signal going out. Replacing the speedometer/odometer combination meter fixed the problem.

My 2011 Sonata cruise control stops working going down steep hills. The set light goes off. I had it set at 50mph but applied brakes when it increased to 70mph. Dealership says they can find nothing...

going down steep hills will all but over ride a cruise control, since the motor is trying to keep the vehicle slowed to what your desired speed that you set , unfortunately this doesn't always work,, as your speed increases, the motor can't keep the speed reduced, when you apply the brakes, the system shuts off, cruise controls were meant to be used pretty much on long flat surfaces with Low inclines ,,

Speedometer works intermittently

It is most likely the speed sensor in the transmission.

1999 Dodge Ram van 1500 no pick up power

I had a similiar problem on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Conversion Van. It ended up being a partial collapse of the catalytic converter which didn't allow adequate exhaust. The problem only showed itself because I could not get over 55 mph going up a small hill.

Speedometer,trip meter,odometer stopped working 90 jeep cherokee on 31s

90 Jeep choerokee the speedo cable is held in place by a plastic retaining clip. If it was dislodged put it back. Otherwise if your car equiped with a cruise control then the speedo cable consits of two sections. Either one may go bad. (it's good for 200k miles)

My speedometer and odometer stopped working

Your speed sensor has failed. The vehicles speedometer is not cable controled, it's controled by a sensor in your transmission. It's a easy fix, but the new sensor is about $80 to $100 depending on where you get it.
