If its automatic driving with one or two feet will not matter. As for dying while driving there is a few things to check. Air filter has it been changed recently? Fuel filter? And fuel pump. Your description of less mileage sounds like air filter first. If its severely dirty change it and see how it goes first.

It is ignition related,check the ecm for trouble codes,then I would do a complete tune-up and if that doen't fix it then check the crank sensor which is what it sounds like anyway but it's cheaper to do a tune-up first just incase
