I have a 94 chevy s10 with a misfire that's about to drive me crazy. I've changed plugs, wires, ignition coils three times with different types and brands no change. So I continued with the ignition control module, fuel filter, fuel pump, timing chain, fuel injectors, map sensor, crank shaft position sensor, and the valve were sent off to a machine shop . I have also had a fuel pressure test and compression test done both were good. I don't know what else to do.

If the compression test was good, that takes care of most mechanical things.
If you know for a fact the plug is firing under pressure, that leaves a vac leak or a fuel injector problem.
You didn't say what size the engine is or if it is MFI, so I will assume it is.
Depending on when the miss happens, it could be a vac leak, including the EGR valve, or an injector that is not getting a ground signal from the engine computer.
Do you know which cylinder is not providing power ?
Does it happen all the time, or only when the engine is under a load ?

Check your fuel pressure, and or injectors. You may have too much fuel getting into the engine causing it to burn rich and overheat the converters.

Check the spark wire for the #1 plug. I had one get burned by the header, I would check it for burns or cuts. Sorry I couldnt help more.

I have this same NO START problem...
Began with tach giving readings not exceding 1200 rpm with strange 4000 + spikes.. Cruse control would not turn on or off at times and indicator light would only work sometimes..Had several episodes of excessive cranking to get it to start.. Stalling out while driving and even at freeway speeds.. Pulling the negative cable for 10 min. allowed it to start although with lots of cranking and put it in limp mode which required another computer reset to get out of.. Had thrown error codes related to cam and crank sensors which were replaced along with coil and manifold temp sensors.. Had the 9 volt power to sensors when key was on but the check engine light does not stay on with all the other idiot lights..
I wish people who respond would read the post first..

If it cranks it ain't the neutral safety switch, starter or battery!! WAKE UP!!
Seems the computer is not turning on the coil, injectors or fuel pump for a reason.. Find that reason and you will find the solution to the problem.. Seeing as that the computers logic states are a dealer secrete the poster as I have changed many parts in blind hope that it will fix the problem.. Relays, sensors and ecu computer.. Did a visual check of all harness potential wear spots like where it crosses over the power rack..
Could it be in the wiring harness inside the dash??
Could it be a bad ground??
Can an alternator that has failed cause the computer not to start??
Can a bad oil pressure sensor cause the computer not to start??
Can signal loss from the TCU or BCU to the ECU cause this??
Is there an undocumented kill if the ECU thinks it was in an accident??
I can ground the relay line from the ECU and the fuel pump runs and pressures up and the other relays turn on as well..
This crank but no start problem seems to be common with a lot of 1994-2001 Dodge and Chrysler owners.. All these systems have become interlaced with undocumented safety features that baffle the DIYer..If you have seen this and have fixed it PLEASE RESPOND!!!!

1998 Acura Integra. P0301 misfire.

If you have already checked the spark plugs, plug wires, fuel injectors, and distributor and are still experiencing a misfire in cylinder 1 and 2, here are a few more things you can check:
  1. Compression: Check the compression in cylinder 1 and 2 using a compression tester. Low compression could cause a misfire in one or both cylinders.
  2. Vacuum Leak: Check for a vacuum leak by inspecting all hoses and fittings for cracks, damage, or looseness. You can also use a smoke machine or propane torch to locate any leaks.

My chevy s10 died going down the road. It turns over but wont start

I have 94 s 10..4.3 v6. it does the same thing have replaced fuel pump and filter,ignition module,cap rotor plugs wires,coil,ground strap...driving down the road jus dies like the key got shut off....for a while when troubleshooting through the parts you could get it to restart.....now when it dies it cranks really hard when trying to restart..ive checked the timeing its fine....if i wait a few min it will usually start...sometimes it will show a check engine light sometimes not......never know when it will happen sometimes jus down the the road from the house sometimes 100miles down the road......sometimes three times in a mile sometimes not for weeks at a time..Wtf...Im ready to shoot it like a lame horse....its a shame too its a sharp lil truck thats a two owner and never spent a night outside in its life...i knew the original owner ...i bought it with 90,000 on it it only has 148,000 now and still looks like new...

Have a 99 s10 with multiple cylinder misfire code. I've changed coil packs, ignition module(used) plugs, fuel filter, timing chain tensioner. Very little power. Any other suggestions as to what can...

Are your spark plugs oily,if so then your piston rings are bad.A compression test will tell you that these cylinder misfires will be low in compression,timing could be off.

P301 code on 1998 Chevy S10 v6

Hi there:

A code P0301 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plug or wire
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Running out of fuel
Poor compression
Defective computer


Possible Solutions: if there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.


If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

1999 chevy s10

Those trucks get intake leaks all the time that can cause misfires. Then again Ford coils **** out all the time. Try switching around coils and see if the misfire codes follow the coils or not.

Location of ignition module on 1994 chevy s10 truck Thanks

My '94 s-10 Doesn't have a "distributor". Down on the passenger side of the block there are 2 "coil packs" each supplying the spark to 2 cylinders. These coil packs are bolted to the Ignition module which is bolted to the block. There are 3 different sets of wires that plug into it. After going at it the hard way(under the truck) I realized that if I raised the flap in back of the wheel I could get to most of the bolts easier. Hop this helps.

1998 Cavalier No Spark in cylinders 1 & 4

ignition mod. grounds,pcm or timing belt could all be it but, I would have to look at timing first.
