1999 Dodge Ram van 1500 no pick up power

Starts fine
Runs well but will not go above 65 to 70 mph

Loses power on hills. .we will be going 65 to 70 mph on interstate, get to a hill and it will drop to 35 to 40 mph. The hills are not all that steep.

Before it has always handled these hills with no loss of power.

Cruise control surged then stopped working, a few days later we starting experiencing loss of power.

We have had a complete tune up and oil change to see if this would help.

We have tried a fuel injector cleaner.

No positive results from any of these.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Side note: The van is a 1999 but it was not a choice under Dodge Ram 1500 so I selected 2000.

I had a similiar problem on my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 Conversion Van. It ended up being a partial collapse of the catalytic converter which didn't allow adequate exhaust. The problem only showed itself because I could not get over 55 mph going up a small hill.

SOURCE: car loses speed when climbing a steep hill.

Start with the fuel filter. Thats the most common thing. If no difference come back.

I have a 1999 ram 1500 5.2l starts up fine runs fine at idle but when you drive it has no power wont go past 30 mph. codes came up for misfire running rich did a tuneup on the truck still runs the same

Misfire could be any component in ignition system. Usually Coil On Plug or Coil Module.

A misfire will show as a rich condition, once sensed by the O2 Sensor.

No power could be Throttle Position Sensor or lack of Fuel Pressure,If NOT Ignition.

Overheating/Loss of power

Unless water pump bearing is loose or noisy or the pump is leaking, that's not your problem. Have the system flushed. Thermostat is also likely not the problem but with repeated overheats or near-overheats it will become unreliable so change it as a precaution.
