Turn off your Alero's engine, engage the emergency break and remove the keys from the ignition. Pop the trunk using the driver's side trunk release latch or by manually unlocking it.
Step 2
Slide your fingers beneath the carpeted trunk trim and peel it away from the trunk's interior.
Step 3
Remove the three wing nuts and bolts that fasten the taillight assembly to the car.
Step 4
Lift the taillight lens away from your Alero's body.
Step 5
Press the three small tabs to separate the taillight lens and the socket plate.
Step 6
Pull the defective bulb gently out of its socket. Dispose of the bulb immediately to keep it from cracking or dropping glass shards on the ground.
Step 7
Press the new bulbs into the socket plate and reassemble the taillight assembly.

you should be able to remove the taillight lens. open your trunk, you may have to pull back the carpet covering the taillight retainer nuts. There should be 3 or 4 retainer nuts, these will either be a plastic wing nut style,or metal nut. remove all of them and gently pull on the lens,it should come out with very little resistance.the bulb fixtures will generally turn counterclockwise. replace burnt bulbs and replace the lens. hope this helps. Dale
Could be the seal around the taillight assembly is leaking water onto the bulbs. I had a similar problem and resealed the plastic lens cover and that was that.... no more burned out bulbs.
Local NAPA dealer explained how to remove the taillight lens and replace the bulb. Just remove two pop-in plugs and lens swings out on a hinge. Simple when you know how. Thanks
To change the taillight assembly open the trunk and pull the cover back on what ever side you need to change. You will see either wing nuts holding the taillight in or 10mm nuts holding the light in. Remove the bulbs and unbolt the taillight assembly and remove replace in reverse.
the ability to just swap bulbs usually is as easy as pinching and pulling the wires out the light assay, but your photos here will advize you on proper method to extract the bulbs, the rest is for removing the whole light assay
You should be able to open the hatch and look on the inside of taillight housing. there should be two or three screws on the inside where the hatch seals. remove these screws and it should pop out. once its out unplug the connectors and you can twist the bulb out remove the bulb from the socket and replace. then just reverse the process.
