Check all your wiring especially your grounds. If you just painted it then you may have a ground wire not grounded due to the paint.

SOURCE: How do I change the battery on a 1999 volkswagon beetle

Open the battery compartment. Loosen the bolt on the negative battery post first. Then remove the negative cable from the battery. Do the same to the positive cable. Remove the hold down bracket with a 10mm wrench. Lift out the battery please keep in mind it has acid in it. Now replace with new battery and connect the cables negative to negative , and positive to positive. You may need to reset your radio stations on your car.

SOURCE: Auto gear lever gets stuck in Park

Brian... i would respectfully advise you that the other site that bocon has given you is a scam.

I'm not sure if you are driving in winter conditons.... but first replace the interlock relay and see if that corrects the problem... and it should. it is indeed the interlock solenoid that will need to be replaced.

SOURCE: Wont shift out of park unless I stick a screw driver in a small hole above gear shifter.

You must remove the console yes, and you need to replace the shift lock solenoid.

SOURCE: 1997 sL1 Saturn manual transmission hard to change gears

The dipstick is behind the battery, below the master brake cylinder and is not the clutch reservoir. It has a red flip top handle instead of a ring like most dipsticks. It was hard for me to find due to engine grease. I had the same problem and was able to see that I was low on fluid (only a little) and adding fluid helped the problem. What would cause my 1999 volkswagon beetle oil light to come on and beep when I just had the oil changed about a couple of months ago?

It could be time for another oil change or your oil level could be low. Check your mileage and see if its time for another oil change. Hope this helps.

The gas gauge in my 1999 volkswagon beetle! What should I do?

Might sound silly, but try and run it nearly out of fuel then fill it up, the float sometimes sticks in the fuel tank when it gets to low or to full. the only inexpensive way to fix it is do it again and see if it free's off. Other thing it may be linked to a fuse so you will have to check in your user manual just to be sure.

P0134 Error

The front o2 sensor is located atop the exhaust manifold at the back of the engine. If you jack up the car and support it properly then get under the car you will see two small wiring harnesses coming out of a black plastic box in the center of the car next to the exhaust pipe. One of those wires leads to the rear o2 sensor, the other to the front o2 sensor that you want. You will need to unclip the wire in several places and unhook it from the connector under the black cover before you remove it from the manifold.
