The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hot wired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.com/

Sounds like not enough voltage to run the ECM from your battery, (but enough to crank it over). With a jump, power is going directly to the terminals. Could be as simple as a film of corrosion on the battery post(s). Can test for that by cranking for 10 seconds, then feel both terminals. ANY heat means resistance (poor contact).
Pull both terminals, clean posts and terminals. Apply a bit of lithium or silicone grease and tighten, try a start.

Wow, big problem. This may not help because you may have already checked it, but have you checked the ignition coil? If you have, then ignore this. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2001 gmc jimmy not starting

Did they do a fuel pressure pressure test to determine that its fuel pump? And if so what was the p.s.i.?It should be around 55 to 60 p.s.i. a few pounds under 55 p.s.i. Pump needs replaced, Your shop should have chk. this when it was there the first time. Did they by chance chg. the fuel filter, that can hinder it from starting too.

Testimonial: "it was the fuel pump thank you"

SOURCE: GMC JIMMY NO START BUT GOT SPARK AND FUEL

try the oil pressure switch, that was a common problem on Gm trucks when I used to work on them, the oils switch was bad and woulden't allow it to start and the ones I worked on were on the back of the distributor.

Sounds like you fuel pump may be going out or your line is clogged. Change the inline filter..if that does not do it ..have the fuel pressure tested...good luck..

Gmc jimmy turns over but wont start

Are you getting spark to the plugs when it won't start ?
Injector pulse ?
It sounds like something is shorting out when its hot or wet which could be a number of things, including a wiring harness issue.

I have replaced my fuel pump, filter, throttle position sensor, and relay on my 1992 jimmy. it runs but everytime it hits idle speed it cuts off. what could that be

It should have an idle air control valve which lets air into the intake to control the idle speed. The valve could be faulty, or dirty, or the throttle body could be dirty. The computer opens and closes the valve to regulate idle speed.

2000 GMC Jimmy, starts up every time, but only runs for 10 seconds then dies. Restarts every time but will not stay running. Replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, CAM position sensor, crank position sensor,...

you say fuel pressure is good, but what is it? what is the fuel pressure when it stalls out? Spec is 60-66 psi and it wont run if its 55 psi. the fuel pump relay should be good if the pump runs. Make sure the ground for the pump is good , G402 should be on left frame rail. you may have had it off to replace the pump? maybe? it may be time to stop guessing and have a repair shop diagnose it for you. You sure have replaced a lot of good parts.

My 99 jimmy will crank but wont start, after a day or two sitting the battery drains. The alternator and battery are only a year old.

it sounds like a fuel problem, cheapest option is to replace fuel filter first if that doesnt work do a bleed test on the fuel line to make sure the fuel pump is working.

1987 gmc jimmy wont start

yea you have no fuel and sound like a bad harness and the gm's are know for there fuel pump harness's! did you change it when you changed the pump? there is a lose connection somewhere in the fuel delivery system and it's pretty simply! i would check the fuel pump relay on the left hand side of the engine compartment and maybe even put power to the pump at the relay position "b" on the fuel pump relay harness and there should be a one pin connector to put power to also connected to the same position on the relay "b" the wire should be tan and white! good luck

99 gmc jimmy, been running okay till a few days ago. Drove it to eat, came back out and it won't start. Battery okay. Tries to turn over, but won't. Acts like out of gas, but half a tank.

Listen for the fuel pump prime cycle.
Have someone listen back by the gas tank....turn the key after it has been off for at least 10 seconds to run position....you should hear a WHIRRRR for about a second or 2.
If it is silent....you may need a fuel pump.
Next give it a shot of starter fluid...if it starts on that...you indeed have a fuel problem. No start....no spark.
If no start and you did hear a pump cycle....then it's most likely a no spark problem.......a common cause is the crank sensor and/or ignition module.
