On my 1995 Gmc Jimmy i have the indash switch which i bought from a dealer. I checked accuator and cable. Cable was stuck but i freed it up. I had four hi working for about a day now it blinks and goes right back to 2hi. Changed solenoid on transfer case and fixed vacuum lines. Any idead
Still sounds like a vacuum problem - not enough vacuum to hold the solenoid in. You could try directly applying a good vacuum source (either connecting to a good line on the truck or using a vacuum pump) to see if the solenoid is working properly. If that works, you will need to recheck ALL vacuum lines. You could also check for DTCs to see if it might be a computer problem.

sounds like it is loosing vacuum check all the lines for a crack even the engine lines will cause it to loose vacc. pressure. if it is not run to the vacuum reserve canister you may not have enough vacc. to hold the actuator in several times I just run new lines and that helped and not very costly.

A good ground is very imporant on these vehicles
SOURCE: where is the vacuum switch
The switches are a very common problem on the S series. It screws into the top of the transfer case. The easiest way to reach it is going up next to the front drive shaft. There should be 3 vacuum lines going to it that attach in a single rubber plug onto the switch. Hope this helps.

Check the switch on the transfercase remove the vacume lines if there is oil in them the switch has to be replaced and the lines should be cleaned out you should also check under the battery tray to make sure the boot is not ripped that controls the leaver to engage the front axel

Try commanding the drive ranges while in netural cycling them. This may normalize the controller that senses the position from the encoder motor assembly. There maybe a procedure for that in a service manual.
