Hi Brenda,could be your blend door is not opening when you turn to hot or the heater core is bad,check floor board on driver and passenger side for wetness.Does the blower motor blow air thru the vents.

Your thermostat is a part in the engine cooling system. I suppose you mean that when you operate your heater you get cold air only. This could mean the engine is not heating up (so change the thermostat) or that the air blend door is not functioning (so vacuum leak or bad check valve in the vacuum control circuit or bad blend door actuator).
The specific location of the sender is on back of cylinder-head near by vacuum-fuel double pump. There is an assurance clip and a rubber sealing O-ring. Heed of antifreeze solution temperature!!! Before you try to change the sender you must be sure that the sender is out of order. First you must check the thermostat operating. Thermostat checking: 1. Cold engine. Start up the engine and watch of the water temp indicator. After first value 60 Celsius Degree you still warm up the engine until the lifter (pointer) reach 80 C deg. (second mark after 60 C deg.). At this time you let engine running at idle speed and check with your hand the thermostat plastic housing and hose temperature in bottom left side of the engine. Heed of alternator driving belt and ventilator fan !!! 2. If the thermostat is good the hose must be cold until the water temp indicator reach almost 90 C deg. 3. The thermostat opening temperature is 87 C deg. 4. If the hose is already warm the thermostat is out of order. 5. If the thermostat and the temp sender are OK the last piece out of order will be the instrument cluster.
check which way you put the thermostat in. The body of the thermostat has to face the water (in head or block) for the heated water to make it work. In the wrong way and it blocks off the water flow and the care will over heat.
Check vacuum hoses. There's one between engine and firewall at the passanger side that operates ur heater. This little creature dries up due heat expossure and cracks causing a vacuum leak that will trigger ur check engine light as well..
well if you have already changed thermostat there is a few other things that can cause this they are listed below 1. faulty rad cap 2. coroded water pump impeller / replace pump 3. rad fan not coming on / possible faulty coolant temp sensor will cause this
Check the vacuum hoses from the switch to the engine compartment. If you manually operate the heater valve on the firewall (follow the 5/8" hose) you will get heat.
Are you saying the engine does not get hot or that your heaters are not working..?
If it's the heaters, change the temp control on the dash to full heat, then trace the heater hoses under the hood from the firewall back to the motor. Hopefully this will locate the heater tap. Now if the tap is vacuum operated, start the motor and check if there is vacuum at the small hose connected to the tap. No vacuum is correct. Now change the heater control to cold and there should now be vacuum at that small hose.
if vacuum is still not present, or if you have vacuum but it does not go away no matter where the heater control is placed, suspect the control in the dash..
If the vacuum operation is correct, suspect a blocked or damaged heater valve and replace it..
