SOURCE: Hit big puddle, drove home now won't start.

Either there is condensation in your distributor cap or you have got water in the plug holes. Remove the plug leads and using a cloth clear the lose water, a hair dryer will evaporate the rest. If it is in the distributo cap, take it off by removing the screws or clips and dry it out, as well as the inside of the distributor. Spray it with silicone oil to keep it water proof.

SOURCE: My mercury mariner starts fine but wont shift out

There is a shifter solenoid that prevents it from being shifted out of park without your foot on the brake pedal. The solenoid may be bad or your brake pedal switch may be bad.

SOURCE: The engine on my 2000 MPV cuts out and dies when I press the accelerator. After it sits for an hour or so, I can travel for 20 min. or so before the problem starts again. HELP!

if its been a while change the fuel filter and then have the fuel pressure and volume checked.these symptoms are very common for a fuel pump problem.

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. I found out that the fuel filter is in the fuel tank, so I made an appointment to have it looked at. Hopefully, it's just the filter! Thank you again!"

Wont start has new fuel pump and starter turns over fine going down the road and it spudders like it ran out of gas it just turns over not even trying to start

my 1988 towncar used to stop running on the open road at 70 mph after 20-25 miles of driving.......after sitting on the side for a 1/2 hr it was start right back up like nothing happened. After 2 frustrating weeks and 3 different mechanics I found out through another towncar owner that the ignition coil is getting hot and is causing the engine to shut off...Lo and behold 28.00 and 20 mins solved the problem. Just invest in a good Ignition coil from NAPA or SUMMIT PARTS

I'm not sure if I know the answer, but I will throw in my experiences. I've run across the "acts like out of gas" problem that turns out to be a fuel cap problem. The fuel cap stops up and won't let the tank vent. Just opening the cap and letting air in lets you know if that is the answer to that problem. It lets the fuel flow again and gets you home. Then change out the fuel cap. But that doesn't explain the plugs covered with carbon. The other experience was on an '88 Chevy S-10 pickup. It would do the same thing. It might run fine for months/miles then just on occasion, just quit like it ran out of gas. I changed the fuel filter, the gas cap, then the fuel pump, then cussed it. This went on for a year. I carried a can of gas with me. I could slop some into the throttle body and get it to fire up and go (sometimes) and sometimes just had to set 30 minutes to an hour. Finally had it looked at and it was the computer (back in the early auto computer days). I picked up a computer from the salvage yard and it never did it again. So if all else has failed, change the computer. I think they are almost as cheap from the parts stores as the salvage yards anymore. Hope that helps, If not, it sure brought back memories to me :)

I have a 1991 park avenue I started it up one day it ran fine and drove fine. The next day It's back firing and missing I drive it down the road and the trans. would not change. can you help me.

Hello. If you have an AAMCO transmission shop nearby drive there. They will scan your car's computer for free and give you a recommendation. Most likely the bands on your 19 year old transmission have stretched a bit and need to be tightened.
If you do not have an AAMCO shop, look in the yellow pages under transmission repair shops. J.

This is a good indication of a bad ignition control module. The module is located under the coil pack (where all of your spark plug wires come from) and may be testable. Auto Zone says they can't accurately test this part but it is $100 to replace it.

what is the fuel pressure reading, bet it's zero. replace the fuel pump and the fuel filter. when fuel gets old it gums up the pump and it won't spin and produce pressure, very common complaint on stored cars, i.e. no fuel pressure.
