I have a vacuum cleaner which I use in my car by connecting it in the 12 volts lighter socket. In wish I could use it for my Music system at home, is there any possibility that I can use it by some sort of adapter etc in a 220 volt socket at home?

Most likely just replace it. You could pull the fuse and then use a small screwdriver to try and pull the tabs inside the receiver in toward the center a little. It could be that repeated insertion and extraction of the lighter or accessory plug has bent them outward enough that they're not making sufficient contact to power what you plug in. If that doesn't work, replace it and then put the fuse back in.

Might have gotten a short in the wires somewhere. Pull your center console up and see if both ground and power is connected to the cigarette lighter.

Testimonial: "Yeah, that was the issue. I had to pull off the black plastic faceplate that borders the radio and HVAC control unit (it's held in with metal clips bent into a triangular shape, made to provide a bit of resistance, but they pop in and out with no damage) to get to it. Thanks for the quick response, sorry about the late reply. Thanks again!"
