Could be throttle cable has slipped. Lift bonnet and find where accelerator cable meets the carb to see if it's loose. If you are car savvy, you can try to tweak the throttle from the carb itself to see if revs increase..... But please be careful
Or you could get someone to press the pedal while you look for movement near to carburettor.... thats just for starters...
there are other reasons but check simple ones first... Red.

SOURCE: Acceleration problems, juddering on a 1.2 16v 2001 plate.

these cars are really acute with there problems and this such prob is usually caused by the air filter needing changing, and full service with plugs and leads doesnt usually go a miss. when was the last time it had new oil and plugs and leads and filters?

SOURCE: engine revs but car doesn't accelerate

Since you did not say what type of transmission you have i will suspect the clutch is slipping if it's a manual.
If it's an automatic, it could be several things. Low fluid level...clogged filter, fluid needs to be changed..transmission serviced...weak pump, bands/clutch packs worn...etc
Good luck..i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

SOURCE: Engine revs with slow acceleration (manual trans)

Sounds like the clutch is going out.

My dacia sandero when i change gear the revs dont die down as if the accelarator is sticking but it isnt?

  1. Worn clutch: If the clutch is worn, it may not be disengaging properly when you change gears, causing the engine to continue to rev as if you were still accelerating. This can also cause difficulty shifting gears or a slipping feeling when accelerating.
  2. Dirty or faulty throttle body: The throttle body controls the amount of air entering the engine and adjusts the idle speed. If it's dirty or faulty, it may not be closing properly after you release the accelerator pedal, causing the engine to continue to rev.
  3. Vacuum leak: A vacuum leak can cause the engine to rev excessively or idle roughly. The leak can be caused by a cracked or disconnected vacuum hose, or a malfunctioning intake manifold gasket.
  4. Faulty idle air control valve: The idle air control valve regulates the engine's idle speed. If it's faulty, it may not be closing properly after you release the accelerator pedal, causing the engine to continue to rev.

Is it normal for the revs to stay up when changing gear in a 2002 4x4 3.0L turbo diesel navara?

do they revs drop off when taking pressure off accelerator pedal when out of gear? if only staying high during gear change it would suggest a worn clutch friction/pressure plate so the engine isn't slowing down when clutch is depressed .I'd also have the OBD codes read to see if there is a sensor/switch at fault , but sounds like the clutch to me

Engine revs but no acceleration

Clutch plate and pressure plate seem to be too weak to pull the car. Or one of the CV joints is detached from the gear box. To test the clutch plate, park the car on flat surface. Pull the hand brake up, start the car, depress the foot brake pedal, depress the clutch pedal, put the car in 1st gear, press the gas pedal and leave the clutch pedal at once, while keeping the brake pedal depressed.
Follow one of the two following statements:
1. Engine does not shut down and remain start. (Clutch plate, pressure plate and clutch bearing defective - Replace all as a set)
2. Engine shuts down. (Clutch system is OK and does not require any repair).

Hi Cory, I suggest you take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan. If you have a speed sensor problem as I suspect, it will show on the fault readouts. Regards John

When starting out from a stop, the car (cvt) shudders for a second or two while the car is accelerating. Is there any friction modifiers that can be added to the trans fluid other than Honda's $15/quart...

it sounds like you have worn engine or transmission mounts. if it was friction from the transmission it would happen anytime you accelerate, not just from a stop. place rubber or wood stops in front and behind the front wheels, pull the e-brake. now have someone hold the brake pedal and start the car. have them put the car in gear and rev the engine, making sure the car doesnt move. while revving the engine, look at the position of the engine and how much it shifts around from its initial position. excessive movement of the engine indicates a worn or loose mount. this will also affect acceleration from a stop. what you are experiencing is the weight of the car catching up with movement of the engine. once they come together, the shuddering stops.

Just purchased my 2nd used Hyundai accent gs- 57,000 miles. I have been researching the cars problem of: 75 mph; in 5th gear, the rpm's are over 4000; making the engine noise almost unbearable! So what...

any "adjustments" you carry out to reduce engine speed at any given road speed will affect the speedo/odometer reading,BUT,the simplest/cheapest way of reducing revs is to fit bigger wheels/ tyres.say fit 15" instead of 13"with the same profile tyres.this will reduce your revs by about 500 @75mph.but the speedo will read 70mph.also acceleration times will be considerably reduced.and put an extra strain on the clutch/engine.
alternatively, swop the whole drivetrain to diesel,75mph=3500.
