Mark the balancer with a white paint marker on the TDC groove, there is a small plug over on the d/side inner fender has a small "dummy" plug plugged into it remove that from the wiring harness plug, loosen the distributor hold down bolt, connect the timing light by hooking the battery leads up to the battery and the other clamp over the #1 spark plug wire, crank truck up and squeeze the trigger on the timing light while trying to locate your paint mark on the dampener, then rotate the distributor in either direction to line up that mark with the pointer thats on the timing chain cover per mnf specs if I remember its 10 degrees when you get it there plug that "dummy " plug back in truck should idle up, if so tighten down the hold down bolt disconnect timing light and close the hood youre good to go at that point!

How do you set the timing on a 4-3 GMC 2000 model?

Start the engine. Aim the timing light at the timing marks on the front of the engine. Turn the distributor to change the timing as needed by grasping the distributor cap and rotating the distributor by hand. Set the timing to 10 degrees and tighten the hold-down bolt and reconnect the timing connector.

How do I set timing from scratch on 2004 astra, I changed timing belt water pump and all pullies. Timing is out. Thanks in advance.

what engine is fitted? did you get a new timing belt adjuster. did you set it to new and not old. ecotec timing marks are on the cover and inside the cam cover. lower timing marks are on the pulley and on the crank. this should line up with the sump case marking on crank and the pin on the engine on the pulley. you need to rotoa the engine at lest 3 times to check the position of the time. also if you have had the cam sprockets off are they on the right ones as this would make timing out. both cameras are set different, there should be markings on the cmes to say inlet and exhaust. same on the cogs. when adjusting the time rotte engine by hand 3 times and if out on the timing and out of new adjust again until each time you rotate the engine it all lines up. adjustment is best done with the pull off. rota adjuster are anticlockwise to adjust dont do this clockwise, as it will move over time away from the stop pin and cause damage to the engine or timing adjuster.

I want to set the timing on my colt Mitsubishi 3 v6 engine

Hi. Before setting the timing colt Mitsubishi 3 V6 engine make sure you know where the timing marks are on your engine, and that you have them set up properly with No. 1 cylinder at top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke before attempting to replace the timing belt. However, you can also visit https://www.reliable-store.com and download the entire service manual for better understanding. It has all the information along with the diagrams. Good day!

Timing on 9 3 99 saab how to set timing

You set the cam timing with the engine set to TDC, the cam wheels have a line which should be just to the left of 12 oclock, the ignition timing is controlled by the engine management system and is not adjustable.

I need a fire timing order for a chevy astro van v6

THE FIRING ORDER IS AS FOLLOWS : 1-6-5-4-3-2.
CYLINDER NUMBERS (front-to-rear) :
LEFT (driver side) 1-3-5
RIGHT (passenger side) 2-4-6

To set ignition timing, ensure that engine is at operating temperature, (190 degrees or above), bypass EST (electronic spark timing) by unplugging the single tan wire with a black stripe from the distributor. Ignition timing should be set at 0 degrees or TDC (top dead center). If not, loosen distributor hold down bolt and adjust, then retighten.

I am having trouble setting the timing on a 262(4.3l)chevy vortec engine 1995

You have to put the Ignition Control (IC) system in the bypass mode by disconnecting the "set timing" connector. This is a single wire sealed connector that has a tan with black striped lead. The location of the "set timing" connector with a Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controller is near the PCM connectors in the passenger compartment. Unplug connector (tan/black stripe) start engine set timing to 0 TDC, TURN OFF ENGINE, re-connect timing connector

Firing Order 1 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2
Drivers side: 1 - 3 - 5
Passenger's side 2 - 4 - 6

Timing on a 1990 Wrangler with a 4.2 liter

4.2L 6-Cylinder

1. Set parking brake. Shift automatic transmission to Park or manual transmission to Neutral. With A/C off, start engine and attain normal operating temperature.

2. With ignition OFF, connect an ignition timing light and a calibrated, expanded-scale tachometer.

3. Disconnect 4 " and 10 " Hg (CEC System) vacuum switch assembly wire connector (located at top of valve cover). Disconnect and plug distributor vacuum advance hose.

4. Start engine, increase engine speed to 1600 RPM and check ignition timing. Adjust timing to specification listed on Emission Control Information label (if necessary). Tighten distributor hold-down clamp and recheck ignition timing.

5. Turn engine off and remove timing light and tachometer. Connect No. 1 spark plug lead, if disconnected. Unplug and connect distributor vacuum advance hose. Connect vacuum switch assembly wire connector.

NOTE: If timing light has an adjustable advance control feature, turn control to OFF position.

Timing is set per the emissions tag under hood.

Set timming

You will need a timing light for Hi energy ignition as well as standard socket set or wrenches. 1. get the engine up to operating temp. 2 shut off engine connect the timing light to the number one[1] spark plug wire at the spark plug end connect battery connectors. 3 start engine and note location of pointer on the mark tab on the timing cover. 4 shut off engine loosen the hold down clamp on the distributor turn the bolt no more than one full turn[snug is better than loose here] then note the position of the dist. cap. Move the dist. to make sure it moves freely replace back to the starting position and remove and plug the vaccum line to the dist. 5 start engine and set timing to the desired spec. 6 shut off engine tighten dist. clamp bolt 7 start engine check timing one more time to see if still there at desired setting. 8 shut off engine dis-connect all tools and light
