How to remove ignition switch of 1997 Saturn sl1

Usually this can be temporarily solved with a shot of graphite lubricant into the key hole and moving the steering wheel side to side while turning the key. But, in the end, the ignition cylinder is wearing out and will eventually need replacing.

Turn your steering wheel to allow the ignition to fully unlock while turning the key.

make sure air bag is plug ed in. if it is then you broke the clock spring .it will have to be replaced to turn light out . air bag will not work until problem is fixed .

I saw a similar post with similar problem with another Saturn. The dealer told him it was a bad battery. My guess here is it is a bad Ignition. However, just to appease the dealer side, disconnect the negative cable from the battery and connect the jumper cable to the negative cable and positive cable. If it was the battery causing the problem the key should come right out. My guess is you need to replace the ignition as one or more of the tumblers is not releasing as it should.
