No year, ? 1967?
no country?
no engine? option , not even gas or diesel.? wow.
2.8 L (3L) Turbodiesel I4 ?
answers are going to be all wrong, see why? NO INPUT.
yes, its running rich,,
but that is obvious right. you do smell unburnt fuel, so, it is running way too rich.
BUT ?
black on a modern diesel, is loss of turbo, (or over injection)
on old diesels, its normal, under some conditions.
on gas (petrol) cars black smoke, is always bad.

here they are,

Has anyone had a problem with excessive oil consumption?

just about everyone does with either an old car or a new car with high mileage.how excessive? is oil consumption.well first thing is to check for oil leaks either underneath the motor or any oil lines feed into the motor .any major leaks would be pretty noticeable.if none are present then one would assume that your motor is burning the oil through the exhaust system .check to see what color smoke is coming threw the tail pipe.blue or black smoke indicates oil burning white will indicate engine coolant burning.in any case some color smoke is normal just depends on how much.so lets say your exhaust smoke is normal still could be burning oil just not a noticeable amount.on average you shouldnt have to add anymore than 2 quarts a month or every 1000 miles .depending on your driving conditions if you are having to add more than this there would be a leak some where or heavy color smoke.keep up on oil changes and always add lucas oil usually 1 quart its alot thicker than conventional oil so it reduces engine wear and will handle any small leaks in the engine components like the pistons and rings.if problem still present get to a dealer or certified mechanic as soon as possible good luck.

320d bmw - dde light on, black smoke from exhaust. is it safe to continue driving

Why is it you guys are not letting us know your names lately? The DDE warning light is related to the Digital Diesel Electronic injection system, hence the black smoke, as the management system is injecting too much fuel into the combustion chambers. Take the vehicle for a digital diagnostic scan. Safer to find out the actual problem before continuing with it on the road. Regards John

Turbo kik in at over 2500 rpm idling black smoke

first what car are we talking about?
if you have black smoke, one of high preassure hoses is broken. that also explain late and poor turbo.

I have just had to have the aa out to my car.I was driving along and i noticed black smoke coming out of the exhaust and lack of power, any ideas to what my be the problem?

coolant tempurature sensor may be bad. (if it is bad it will run to rich, run rough at idle, and produce black smoke. engine may stall out.

Now starting when cold, it belches black smoke and runs very roug

Sounds like either the float level is too high, there is a problem with the float needle valve or the power valve is stuck. I'd take the carb off and either replace it or take it apart and check everything inside. If you do nothing, chances are it will either get worse or if it's a small piece of junk inside, it may clear up by itself...I'd take it apart. Since it's pretty new, if you are careful, likely you won't need a gasket kit.
