My factory am/fm cd radio in my 2005 ford taurs comes on and off. sometimes it may not come back on for days and sometimes when it does, you cant change the volume, or the channel or use the cd player
I have checked the fuses and none of the fuses are blown. im wondering if it could be the wiring that is under the radio

is it a new cd/radio ? the wiring is the same for a radio with or with out a cd player , the cd should work once the radio is connected , the other port you mention may be relevent as the original radio was a factory installed , these are usually designed to be useless to be used in other vehicles as a theft deterrent , i would remove the new radio and have a good search in the radio space as there may well be the second connector you require , be very carefull as there are many sharp edges and the apeture is not very large , the second connector , if there, will most likely be taped to another loom so as to keep it away from touching other parts so a good torch and have a search , keep me posted if you wish
you ether have to get a new radio, or get an FM transmitter with m3 jack. Walmart auto has them they plug in to the cig lighter for between $15 to $30 they do work
you can try a AM/FM antenna booster if you know how to get to the back of the radio. Otherwise the radio ground needs to be checked out and the antenna ground would need to be tested to see if there was corrosion on the antenna base or the connector to the back of the radio. On some cars the antenna is located in bad area and they don't get the signal boost off of the cars ground plane The more reflective surface you have on the car the more radio waves will bounce back and increase signal strength. Also Depending on atmospheric conditions and skip conditions sun spots and other natural occurring things can cause poor reception. The signal booster is about $10.00 at any radio Shack or any auto parts store. Hope this helps.
Worth checking whether it's not just traffic news coming on. The volume level is independent to the normal level and if you've lowered the volume at some point in the past it will remember that level.
Turn the radio off first and then disconnect the battery for 2 min then reconnect the battery. This should reset your radio and then you can eject your CD, and reset your stations and clock. Good luck
does your cd player come on randomly? it sound like a loose connection on the rear of the radio? check the fuse on back of unit.....or fuse in car!! and how lond have you had the cd player?? could just be worn out!!
