How do I adjust the clutch cable in my 2001 mustang cobra

The adjuster needs to be reset. It should then automatically readjust to provide the proper amount of clutch pedal travel.

Per the Ford owners manual:

The clutch on your

vehicle is operated by

a cable. As necessary, adjust the clutch as described

below.

1. Turn the engine off and shift into 1 (First).

2. Put your foot under the clutch pedal and gently

pull it up until the pedal stops.

3. Push the clutch pedal down slowly. You will hear a
click as the clutch adjusts itself.

If it's a stock set up you adjust the clutch by lifting the clutch pedal up.

The clutch is not fully releasing. You can try putting it into some other gear first, then rapidly moving to first gear, but really, you need to either adjust the clutch, or get it repaired.

No adjustments can be made for the system has a hydralic slave cylinder which makes the adjustments automaticly

Chek compresser fuse. Feel the front of the compressor while car is off and see if the compressor clutch moves by hand. If it does not move by hand, You will need a new compressor, if it does move freely by hand it is a compresser fuse blown

My '86 5.0 was a cable controlled clutch no slave or master cylinders. Make sure the throwout lever is seated properly, and check for movement when the clutch pedal is depressed. It should move at least .75 inches when depressed. Also make sure the bell housing is mating up to the engine completely and all bolts are tight. If all these things are ok it could be an improperly installed or wrong throwout bearing. I hope this helps. I remember what a pain that job was when I did mine esp. that screwy cable pulley thing attached to the clutch pedal. Which also may be the problem. Good luck.

sound like your clutch is going it happened to me with my first clutch i have a 88 mustang firstcar still but many problems but yeah not sure.

you know some mustangs have an adjustment system on the clutch pedal, and might need adjustment, or if you install a rebuilt clutch instead of a new one some times they come unbalance and vibrate if you did just never again trust a rebuilt clutch kit
