My ford freestyle 06 2wd 52000mi after left idiling on park for a short time i'll put it in reverse than drive and than shuts off but engine light came on for 1 day than went off it has done it at least 6 times in 1 year

Limited information generic answer Check the shifter linkage if good Re check fluid it if looks dirty ( not burgundy) you can try a flush and fluid change

the inter lock will get you stuck in park but not reverse unless your linkage is forced
maybe you have a different problem
try to put the car in nuetral while the key is only one click forward and your foot on brake , that may get you moving

some fords have a key hole on the bottom of the steering column and you can just put your key in and put the car in neutral, then start the car and drive

Hello Heather, Sometimes you can't shift out of Park unless you push on the brake pedal and sometimes turn the steering wheel. Good luck.

Some people will put Lucas into their transmissions to extend the life of the Transmission but there are people who do that and cause it do DIE!!!! and I mean Immediately.

short circuit in the multi function switch in the column.

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

Open the hood and look to your left to the rear at the top of the firewall.You will see a large wire harness going into a computer module.remove the wire harness from the computer and look for corrosion.Clean any corrosion and reinstall harness and waterproof the connection as Ford did not waterproof this connector very well and it can cause all sorts of trouble.

No solution. Just got the EXACT same issue last weekend. myfordfreestyle notes said to remove air intake and clean throttle body with basic tb cleaner. seemed to help, but getting some more engine reving during routine shift into park situations.

Any ideas out there? =H

hi idle choke or not warmed up enough

Hey! Me too same problem. Just a slight increase in RPM after putting car in reverse or drive and with foot on the brake, presumably brake light circuit lit. Just enough to be startling, then annoying. And yes, the dealer said it registers as possible problem with the throttle body, but then cant't repeat the problem. I am thinking maybe there is a current leakage into the fuel injection system from the brake light circuit because that's the only time it seems to happen.
