The codes are stored in one of the vehicles control modules. Need a good scan tool to get codes out of modules other than the Engine computer. Simple code reader no good here . These newer cars,1996 and above all have serial data communication networks that all the modules share information on. If one of these modules shorts out it will bring down the whole system , and can cause a no start no crank situation . Snap On Scan Tools 12 4 http://youtu.be/01ydQ-FqNwI

2006 zephyr car wont start. it says "odo data error" it wont start or even turn over. please help. single mom only car.

I searched using https://www.google.com and a few search results for ODO DATA ERROR suggested a faulty transmission part, but that is not certain. You will probably need it towed to a mechanic if a friend can't help you to start it. There is testing equipment that may indicate what is wrong, but don't disconnect the battery which might erase the information.

Wont star put new battery in

If it ISN'T cranking over ok ... and has a discharged battery..
Disconnect the leads from the rear of the alternator. A faulty alternator can discharge a battery within minutes. Charge the battery and leave the alternator disconnected. Try and start the car.

If - with a charged battery and alternator disconnected - the engine seems very slow to crank or makes a 'clicking' noise ... try cleaning the battery terminals - particularly where the black lead connects to the engine block/bodywork.

Check the leads -and terminals - for breakage/corrosion. A 'bad earth' or corroded/loose battery terminal can cause non-starting problems.

If all is ok and the car spins the engine but won't start, suspect a sensor fault.

Don't waste money on replacing part after part in the hope that the care will fire up. The best - and cheapest - option is to have an OBD - a hand held diagnostic check done. This will identify any error codes and tell you the cause .. i.e 'crankshaft sensor fault'.

2011 dodge nitro. Had red lightning bolt pop up and now car wont start been having problems cranking so.id turn key 3times give gas and usually crank then.it finally gave out wontdo anything.

Electrical problems. Start with battery. Condition? terminal corrosion? Charging system? will it jump start? if it will but dies when jumper cable is removed, charging system has problem.
Auto parts store can check battery, charging system read error codes. you may be able to find problem. If you check google I bet you are not the only one.

2008 Jeep Liberty error code gate on dash and interior light will not turn off got new battery and still doing it

can i buy a comma? says vanna white?? LOL !
ok, the battery drains, so you got a DRAIN, called phantom drain.
or dark current.!!
we use a thing called an AMMETER (DMM) to find all drains, easy

do you have one, want to learn or just wanting wild guessing.

on any 08 liberty, we check the scan tool data.
oops it shows battery low, wow even the PCM sees that.

new batteries do not fix drain.
nor dead alternators.

get it serviced, by a pro. ?

1: charge battery (rested its 12.6vdc )
2: start engine, scan tool shows, what DTC errors (post em')
3: battery voltage is , 13.3, to 15vdc running, if not charge system is faulting.
4: ok all that is ok, i then key off and measure bettery cable neg lug drain current, if 0.010a to 0.040a its ok, if over 0.1 amps its a drain.
we then find the drain cause, ASK? its not hard with a meter.
but i bet all you wanted is a wild guess.

I have 2003 Lincoln LS. I left my lights on and I think I killed the battery. Because when I tried to start the engine it barely turned over. So I setup the trickle charger and let it charge for like 3...

2 things come to mind. first a trickle charg will take about 8 to 10 hours to fully charge the battery, so you might need to charge it longer to see if the battery takes a full charge. did you try jumping the car with another.
second is it possible the charger was hooked up backwards (pos to neg and vice versa)

Do yourself a favor , don't play the swap parts game ! Take it to a quailfied repair shop . Every body thinks they can fix car's .They read a little an assume that's the problem . There are specific test for checking fuel pressure an testing the fuel pump electrical circuit . If you want to fix cars go to school . You can't just replace PCM'S - powertrain control modules , they need to be programmed . This requires a factory scan tool or a J-2534 pass through device .
