Hi Mac...Not sure what year or kind of car but...When your trunk opens, the trunk light comes on which will drain battery down. You can remove the bulb for quick fix...for the drain problem. You can do a battery drain test after you pull the bulb out...just to make sure it is not something else draining Batt down. Remember...your car comp has a small drain to operate clock, radio memory, and computer memory...So when doing Batt drain test you need to know factory allowed Amp drain.
.Trunk latch probably needs an adjustment. Bolts could have loosened on latch. Sometimes you can see the bracket has shifted. Loosen bolts and slide bracket back to original markings. Tighten bolts. My kids thought it was funny playing with the fob key on wife's car and accidently setting off alarm. I had no fob for the key I used on her car. Body shop can quickly adjust trunk latch for a few bucks. Once it is adjusted, put the bulb back in.
