My car will not start unless I spray Quick Start on the inlet valve. What is the cause of this problem and how can it be solved? The car is a 1990 VOLVO 740 GLE

The problem wont be your timing belt. you need to take out a spark plug plug it into your HT lead and check for a strong spark or even if there is a spark. check your contact breakers on the distributor as well

SOURCE: volvo 740 not starting

Fuel pump is located on drivers side below rear driver door area near rear axle. Fuel filter is located next to pump.

we have the same car, i would have a mechanic check the ECU. thats the first step in finding out what is wrong and why its burning so mutch fuel. it could also be your air filter, but then agian, you wouldnt be burning a tank of gas a day. well hope you get it fixed.

Have you tried replacing the fuel filter? It is located under the cars center on the left side ..

You will find it alongside the main high pressure fuel pump on a metal support plate held up with 3 bolts.
Remove the 3 bolts with a 10mm socket wrench to lower the plate. Place a catch pan below the filter to catch any leaking fuel.
Be careful not to get fuel in you eyes or running down your arms. Remove the 2 bolts holding the banjo fuel pipe connections to the filter.
Note the direction of the filter.
Loosen the clamp holding the filter to the support plate and slide out the old filter.
Install the new filter in the same direction as the old one and use new copper sealing washers on the banjo connections.

crank sensor its down where trans meets engine look for frayed wires replce this sensor its probably oil soaked as well use to own one of these while i worked for volvo

If your vech. is fuel injected, check your cold start valve. It sprays a bit of fuel when its cold to assist. In starting.

YOu don't say if the engine cranks. If it does, spray some quick start into the inlet while cranking. If it makes no attempt to fire or start, it is electrical, but it it fires the problem is fuel.

First started with idle droping to stall. Now the idle is cycling up to 2000 rpm every few seconds. I am thinking it should be the idle control valve or the computer that controls the idle control valve....

You are on the correct lines, try spraying penetrating fluid into the valve, sounds like the valve is sticking. Maybe need to replace the valve.

Also check for air leaks on the inlet side of the engine, air leaks cause revving issues. Easy way is spray a fine mist of easy start over the inlet, if the revs race up then you have a leak or pipe off.

1990 toyota pickup engine won't start

CHECK THE COLD START INJECTOR ON THE INTAKE MANIFIOLD.
1. UNPLUG THE POWER WIRES TO THE IGNITION COIL(NOT THE HI VOLTAGE WIRE TO THE DISTRIBUTOR)
2, UN BOLT AND PULL OUT THE COLD START INJECTOR(LEAVE IT PLUGED IN TO POWER AND FUEL
3. BREIFLY CRANK OVER THE ENGINE AND WATCH THE SPRAY FROM THE TIP. (A FIRE EXTINGUSHER WOULD BE A VERY GOOD IDEA)
4. HOW DID THE SPRAY LOOK
WAS THE SPRAY QUICK, IN A FINE MIST? IF SO ITS OK AND NOT THE PROBLEM.
IF IF IT RAN ON, A STEADY STREAM OR POURED OUT THERE IS SOME THING WRONGE WITH THE COLD START INJECTOR

Could it be a plug up injector , have sewiing needle , stick it in the sprayer part of the injector on the carberator part
