2011 Ford Escape driver side tail light not working correctly - lights are on but turn signal flash not working and neither is the brighter brake light

2011 Ford Escape driver side tail light not working correctly - lights are on but turn signal flash is not working and neither is the much brighter brake light. The passenger side tail lights are working correctly. What do I need to do to solve this problem? Do I need to replace the bulbs or is this a more involved issue?

I would guess that you need a new bulb. Many of these tail lights actually have two filaments inside them, one that is used for a dimmer light (running light) and one that is used for a brighter light like (brake light, turn signal). The easiest thing to try (and probably the cheapest) would be to buy a replacement bulb and change it. Most places that sell automotive light bulbs will have a large catalog where you look up the make model and year of the car you need a light for and it will tell you which replacement bulb you will need. Then look in your cars manual to see how you access and replace the bulb.

Testimonial: "Thank you very much - your advice was dead-on accurate! The pack of two bulbs cost me $6.25 at a local car parts store. It took me all of about 10 minutes to replace the bulb that was misbehaving and now I have a spare for later."

Replace all the bulbs and if that doesn't work, check all the socket grounds.

I have no break lights or turn signals

Turn signal tail lights and BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING

It can be faulty brake light switch causing the problem or its blown brake light bulb. First check and confirm brake light lamp is working and that's not the case.

For turn signal not working it can be faulty turn signal switch or its issue with wiring:----

No turn signals, 1 driver brake light bad, ABS light on. 2002/2003 CVPI

Sounds like you have 'ground' issues. Apply the brakes using a broom stick or more apropriate tool so that the brake lights are activated. Then go to the brake light that is not bright enough. using a test-light with a sharp pointed probe, poke the ground wire close to the bulb (usually a black wire) make sure the test light is attached to a grounded bolt. if the brake light gets brighter with ground added, you need a new ground wire. Splice it in to the existing wire & attach it to a bolt. Lights should work better with proper ground. (each bulb has a positive post & neg. post, don't add ground to the side with power coming through it from Battery (+)(red light on test light) - probe wires FIRST with test light to find (+) POS. Hot wire, and leave that one alone.

When i press brake pedal driver side brake light quits working but other wise it works fine?

That has a double filament bulb in it. One is for the tail light and the other for the brake and maybe the turn signal. If your turn signal flashes the tail light and not an individual turn signal bulb it will behave the same way. The way it works is that the tail light filament goes off and the brighter brake light filament comes on. The brake light half of the bulb is out. If you change it, change the passenger side too, it will do the same shortly if you leave it in. They tend to go bad in pairs. Good luck.

Trailer lights have two wire out of each fixture left turn goes on left side Right hand turn goes on the other side Tail lights connect how and brakes connect how?

One wire is for the brake/directional filament and the other wire is for the tail light. The fixture should be grounded when it is attached to the bracket. To test which is which (the brown wire is USUALLY the ail light) make sure the fixture is grounded and touch a hot wire to each of the wires coming from the fixture. Watch to see which wire lights up the brighter filament and this is the brake/directional light. The dimmer filament if the tail light. Brakes lights and directional lights are both the same filament. Wen the brakes are applied, both lights are activated. When a direction light is turned on, it simply flashes the brake light filament.
