2008 Pontiac solstice- brake lights stay on. Press brake pedal and release, lights go off for about 3 seconds, then come back on.

Stop Lamps
The brake pedal position sensor is used to sense the action of the driver application of the brake pedal. The brake pedal position sensor provides an analog voltage signal that will increase as the brake pedal is applied. The body control module (BCM) provides a low reference signal and a 5-volt reference voltage to the brake pedal position sensor. When the variable signal reaches a voltage threshold indicating the brakes have been applied, the BCM will apply battery positive voltage to the stop lamps, center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL), transmission control module (TCM), and engine control module (ECM). Ground for the right rear stop lamp and CHMSL is applied at G402. Ground for the left rear stop lamp is applied at G400. The stop lamps on this vehicle will not illuminate unless the ignition is in the accessory, run, or crank positions. When the ignition is in the OFF position the stop lamps will not illuminate when the brake pedal is applied.

Do you know what DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are ?
DTC B3903 02: Stop Lamp Relay Circuit Short to Ground
DTC B3903 05: Stop Lamp Relay Circuit Open or Short to Voltage

DTC C0277 06: Brake Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Short to Ground or Open
DTC C0277 07 : Brake Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Voltage Above Threshold
DTC C0277 09 : Brake Pedal Position Sensor Circuit Rate of Change Above Threshold
DTC C0278 00: Brake Pedal Position Sensor Not Calibrated
DTC C0870 03 : Device Voltage Reference Output 1 Circuit Voltage Below Threshold
DTC C0870 07 : Device Voltage Reference Output 1 Circuit Voltage Above Threshold

Your best bet mite be to take it to a qulaified repair shop .

Brakes short lights

You need to get you alternator tested, it sounds like the current output is too low.

Third brake light stays on; brakelights very dim; radio, clock, flasher emblem on dash blink when turn signals are used; signals flash fast when brake pedal is applied.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere in the brake circuit. May be between the brakes and the blinkers in the brake lights.

Why doesn't the eletronic parking brake work?

Try a reset of the park brake.
Make sure you have your radio code.!!
Disconnect the battery - leave for 10 Min's.
Reconnect.
Turn ignition on. If fault has not reset - try the following
Apply foot brake (not too hard)
Apply park-brake switch following instructions on the message center.

Use this method for any park brake fault as most of the time it fixes the minor problems caused by glitches and low battery voltage.
hope this helps good luck

Brakes applied, brake light turns on but other running lights off

The brake switch under your brake pedal may be defective. It turns on the brake lights when brakes are applied, if it is defective within the switch, it may short your other lights when brakes are applied. The switch can be replaced by you and it not expensive.

Car shorting out whenever i apply brakes. the radio chips out and the headlights or any other light on the car goes dim. Its puzzling me because its not consistent.

You may have either a power drawl in the brake light circuit or a loose12v wire thats swinging against ground and shorting. With car on check the tail light wires.Move them around with your hand to see if the problem reoccures.

Radio effected by brakes?

If this happens when the car is still you have voltage interference between brake light voltage & antenna. If this happens from motion check all wire connections, loose antenna wire, to antenna.
