2003 Sonoma v-6 motor runs fine in park and reverse but when you go to drive it acts like it don't want to take the gas motor starts jerking around

There are lots of ideas here, but due to the fact you can smell gas, clean the Throttle Body with spray cleaner. It isn't shutting properly. Clean the MAF (Mass Air Fuel) sensor as well.

believe it or not it is the norm and is more annoying in the 4 cyl --havent had it stall thought their a slush trans personally hate them also will act like slipping when trying to pass excessive revving the 6cyl happens less and the higher revving usually doesnt happen but in traffic may get the jerking also but GM constant states normal

Dirty air filter, dirty throttle body...try 2 bottles of gas line fuel injector cleaner...has your car been parked for awhile? Heet gas additive will work on any low gas tank sludge that you may have. Hope this helps.

You can check the fluid level of a transmission only while the motor is running while in park or neutral (wheels blocked). Remove the rear dip stick (transmission) and wipe it with a rag, reinsert it completely. Repeat the procedure and note the level, which should be between or in the hash marks (towards the end of dip stick) and add accordingly.
If the level is okay you will have to check with transmission shops and the Ford dealer for quotes ( and check on Google ). The problem you have is either a transmission or computer problem.

clutch slips, it looks like you need tranny repair

Lack of.gas getting to carb or tbi. Howes the gas tank vent or fuel.filter? Or even.just lots of water.in gas.

O2 Sensor & Exhaust Converter have nothing to do with the problem
If you have over heating issues, you wouldn't be using it,it would be at a repair shop being diagnosed, before the motor is beyond repair

you have a tranny that is wore out , need to rebuild or replace with used one
