How do i remove the steering wheel on a 1989 mazda b2200

Hi
  • 1st thing you want to do is position the steering wheel straight, easier when you put one back on. If it's never been removed before you might need the help of a puller
  • 2nd is to disable the horn. Easiest way to do that is by just removing the negative cable from your battery.
  • 3rd is to remove center wheel cover on the three spoke steering wheel you can just simply peel the cover off. On two spoke steering wheels (which is stock), you'll need to remove three or four screws on the back side of the steering wheel. Then pull on the front cover, unplug the horn wire from the connecter, and set the center section aside.
  • 4th is to loosen steering wheel retaining nut. With a 21mm or 13/16ths socket and maybe a breaker bar, you'll want to loosen the retaining nut that is holding the steering wheel on the column. Back it off until it is approximately flush with the end of the bolt. Leaving the nut on the end of the bolt will prevent steering wheel from hitting you in the face when and if you try to use your own strength to pull it off.
  • 5th is pull the steering wheel. Try and give a firm tug on the steering wheel while wiggling it right to left to pull it off the column.
As said above, if the steering wheel has never been removed before, it's probably going to require a gear puller or steering wheel puller. You can acquire one of these at your local auto parts store. Good luck

i understand the problem chad skeet69 is having w/his 1988 mazda b2200. why would you lower a b2200? doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of hauling water with it? one way to fix your problem is to move. get expert help from a certified mechanic. it was fun talking to you in emails but i'm not interested in those kind of activities.

How to put on ignition switch on a '88 mazda b2200

If you mean actually replacing the ignition switch on the vehicle with a locking column. You need to do this. Dicconnect the battery, remove the lower panel of the dash if there is any. There is a bolt on the steering column near the fire wall on most vehicles, remove this bolt, it will release the spline on the steering column. Disconnect all wiring going to the column, unbolt the column from the dash support. Remove the column from the truck, on the ignition switch you will see where the two shear bolts screw the assembly together, center punch the center of each bolt. Now drill the bolt with a 1/8" drill about 1/4" to 3/8" deep. Now use a 3/8" drill and drill out the shear head until it comes off the bolt. You can now remove the switch assembly from the column. The new assembly should come with new shear off bolts so when you bolt it in place when tightned they will break off rendering it tamperproof again. Most vehicles are designed like this now to stop theft. Check the column for operation before reinstalling it in the reverse of above. You just want to make sure the key locks and unlocks the column before reinstalling in the vehicle. You may want to do this before you totally tighten the bolts and break them off permanently. Good luck, RAC
