Checked bulbs and fuses...all good. Dealership and aftermarket do not offer a neutral safety/reverse light switch.
Totally untrue but using the wrong name
ask counter man for PRNDL switch, on side of transmission A./T
and tell him which of 2 transmissions used, there,
42RE?
the only line pages at jeep cover this.(parts online) why not look?
the shifter uses a cable , this cable goes under car
this other end goes to the manual lever on side of the trans
this lever has a PRNDL switch on every a/t made (most cars)
but?
when in R, mode, the switch closes and the 12vdc leaves there
to the 2 rear backup lights, and they glow.
sure check fuses, first , for ever and ever. that.
ive posted the GC FSM links now like 100 times. so will skip that
but what trans?
45RFE box.
on some jeeps the switch (sadly) was moved to the solenoid module.
'
called soleniod packaage
http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=640503&ukey_product=8664680
but you need to learn what transmission is there.
42RE
45RFE
or just what first, or you will buy the wrong parts.
does this help. surely the dealer will answer you.
even look up VIN in their database and see
what trans is there, no grease on knuckels at all.
the trans does have a plate on the side that reads.
BLA BLA.. full id and serial.
unture not sold, untrue its ,not there, there is a switch, but where is the question. did you read the FSM and see who runs the reverse lights first, a switch or the BCM/TCM /PCM? that be first, see how it works. let me do that for you at alldata.com read the manual first then leap.. did you scan the PCM first, that is FIRST ! after all it can send out DTC errors to the max, and are all important, (like REV failure?) did you know that this car has its own, shift lever Canbus computer, now that mine dont have, and is key. to this problem. more on next post.
im reading the FSM for you now, and can find the page, you need, nextg
there are 3 sense switches inside the TRS (sol, module of trans)
oops, you never stated engine size and the bigger engines have 7 sense switches in the box. and all 7 got to PCM, not to lights at all !!!
that 7 type is for engines, 4.7 and 5.7liters, do say?
so the PCM runs the lights, not the trans, sorry, but is PCM or TIPM under hood. Ill now look that up for you, next
btw, at the dealer he'd push a button on his scan tool ($20,000 ) tool and cammand on the light, first. OMgosh its dead.?
im no going to rear of car and work forward, to source of reverse.
the MIP or TIMP runs this lamps , so lets not review the system, (distributed processing) driver selects reverse the TRS sends rev. digital signals to PCM, pack then sends CANBUS data to MIP (TIMP) then the TIMP hears this command and activates a driver board to glow tail reverse lamps. so if all fuse are good, and the scan tool sees no errors (I BET YOU IT DOES) then the lamps are blown. end story. if not clear on distributed data comms, ask.
now the proof , at end.
this is the MIP , module integrated power. (TIPM on mine) the module gets serial command from PCM, if the scans show COMM errors U codes or C codes those are fixed FIRST as are fuse DEAD codes. SEE?
Does this help you see that it does not work any thing like a 93 GC?
short story, (fuses first) scan scan second, if you can't scan(why not) then all is losts. its hopeless DIY problem. Scan it. (buy a tool, rent one, have it done, or ?)
ive got 2008 and have the tool and made (desiged) my own Canbus, monitor system. (I can now see all cammands set out) i can see the switch turnd by hand and the PCM send out the command, today.

The reverse light switch is part of the transmission range selector switch. Where that is located I am not sure.
