Gearbox problem Hi I've got a 99 A4 2.4 Tiptronic with 240 000 kms. When driving in auto between 1500 and 2000 rpm it keeps on switching between gears (refs are varying)but when switch to tiptronic it is constant. When you switch gears the refs changes to the new requirements but almost immediatly drops with about a 100 rpm. Is there clutch plates that is warn out. Thanks [email protected]

What is a tiptronic transmission?

A Tiptronic gearbox is almost an in-between of a manual and automatic car. It is basically an automatic gearbox that gives you the ability to change your gears manually. This allows you to have greater control than with an automatic and can be especially useful for going uphill. This is actually a fairly common feature in European cars and even some Japanese ones too. The difference between a Tiptronic gearbox and an automatic one is that Tiptronic ones have an option to switch out of its automatic mode so it will work like a manual car when you choose. Some newer models have safety features in places so it limits the speed of the car when it is in certain gears so it doesn't damage the car which is something to consider.

Where are the speed sensors on a 99 toyota tacoma

depending on the area left hand drive can be left or right wheel. right hand drive is left wheel. engine speed sensor is the crank and cam sensor. or auto box receives signal from the ecu to the gearbox regarding rpm and kph/mph speed. uses both signal to determine the gear to be selected. also the break switch.

I have a lexus is 250 with a tiptronic auto box when im coming downhill the car is hunting/jerking and never done it before.the gearbox is smooth but when you drive on the highway for a long time and

read the owners manual on the operation of a tiptronic box. It will probably state that the manual selection of the box is for keeping the gear box in set gears to prevent unnecessary gear changing. So when going down hill select a gear manually and that will use the engine braking capability instead of up shifting as the rpms increase
It is fun to use the tiptronic as a manual box but that is not the real purpose of the transmission design.. IT is to lock the transmission into certain gears to prevent unnecessary up and down shifting of the transmission

Delay in Auto shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear

Check your ignition coils. One of mine was bad and when I replaced it, the shifting issue stopped.

2000 Audi A6 tiptronic 2.5tdi. Gearbox warning light on, no 5th

You need to give the car a scan, preferably with VCDS (or VAS at a dealer). If limp mode is activating (lit up gear selections), then it will be storing codes.
The fact that it works to a degree could be good news, the gear box has likely not failed. Could be the F125 selector switch, which is a common fail at this age.
