check the main fuse to the radio, if fuse looks good than pull the radio out and check the fuse to the radio, if fuse looks good to the radio, check the power wire to the radio making sure you getting 12 volts. if there is power to the main wire it will be faulty radio. note: before pulling out the radio make sure you test for power where the main fuse is making sure you get power flow to the fuse by using the light tester. hope that help some
SOURCE: something draining battery on 2000 VW Beetle Turbo
If you are sure you have a key off battery drain, what you need to do is connect an ammeter to the negative side of the battery(disconnect the negative battery cable and connect one side of the ammeter to the battery terminal and one side to the and one side to the battery cable) note the reading and start pulling fuses one at a time making sure to put them back in their proper slot when the reading an the ammeter goes down to normal the short will be on the circuit of the fuse you have pulled if any part of these instructions is too difficult have the problem checked by a dealer
SOURCE: 2000 VW Beetle - had to jump the battery and when
2000 Beetle radio has a 10amp fuse at its rear left. have to remove radio to get to it. removing and returning radio is not easy. let me know if you need help with that as i have done this repeatedly on two different 2000 beetles and finally have it downpat. of course you need radio code, have found an article on how to disable VW radio anti-theft code but have not tried it yet.
