Hi there, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

When performing a compression test on each cylinder they must be within 25% of each other or this will cause the engine to run bad. However, if you have a compression reading of say 120, 125, 115, and 120 PSI then you have something else causing the engine to run bad. If you need further assistance go to my website below. Have an awesome day! Auto Repair

I am trying to get a 1989 ford escort gl with a 4cyclinder 1.9 engine to start. The battery is good, theres gas, spark at the solenoid, not sure if theres spark at the plug. the rotor is new, no spring or...

a spark shows that ignition system is probably okay, but fouled spark plugs or out-of-time ignition could cause the failure to start. and another cause is no fuel or fuel system is not delivering a combustible air-fuel mixture. more possible causes are improper operation of valves, and loss of compression.

New battery, new starter just installed wont turn over.

turn on your headlights ,then turn key like your going to try and start the engine and see if the headlights dim dramatically, then you'll know if you have a good connection to starter from battery, then check chg on new battery

I need to know how to time a 1989 ford escort lx 1.9liter

ON the crankshaft, line the keyway at 12 0'clock. There should be a pointer on the crank gear it lines up to the slash mark on the oil pump. On the camshaft line the hole in the gear with the pointer to the the dimple mark on the cylinder head at the 12 0'clock position.
