No it has nothing to do with the cat.
Code 161 is for a problem with the heater circuit for sensor 2 bank two. Either the heater in the sensor has failed, or the circuit that powers the heater is not working.

I have a 2002 Montero Sport with a o2 sensor code. I had my neighbor replace the sensor and the check engine light went out, but as soon as I turned the car off and turn it back on the light came back on....

80 % of all O2 Sensor Codes are from Vacuum Leaks
or EVAP System Vacuum problems

Engine misfires also set them, to protect the exhaust converter

Have a repair shop get down to the real issue

How do you change the O2 sensors?

The oxygen sensors, or O2 sensors, on a Mitsubishi Montero Sport are located under the vehicle. Models made prior to 1996 had only one sensor which was located on the catalytic converter, behind the exhaust manifold. Newer models have additional sensors located on the left and right sides of the manifold.

Service Engine Soon

you need to change all the o2 sensors reset the computer it might come back on a couple of times just keep resetting it you could buy one of the cheap code scanners for 49 or 59 dollars and reset yourself if you go to a shop they are going to sell you a catalytic converter for a few hundred bucks and the code will come back. let me guess you got about 100,000 miles on it what it really means is a shop or dealer will get paid for a cat job when you dont need one

Meaning of code 151 0n 4m41 engine

P0151 O2 Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
this could be a fluke code I would earse it and see if it comes back before putting the sensor in there not cheap. Bank 2 means witch side of the engine bank 1 is the side that #1 cylinder is on bank 2 is the other side sensor 1 means upstream above the catalytic converter on the engine side sensor 2 is below the catalytic converter

I have a 98 Montero Sport and have yet to fail a test. I have changed a CAT Converter for 200 and some O2 sensors for 50 per since i had the car. you can get a aftermarket universal O2 sensor at a good price as for the CAT Converter ya they are expensive I just knew the guy. As for the dash light disconect your battery it will reset it

Code P0158

Bank 2 sensor 2 is the post-catalytic converter O2 sensor on (usually) the driver's side. It's the sensor that the car uses to monitor the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Whichever side of the engine has cylinders 4, 5, and 6 is bank 2 (you'll probably find that information on a decal underhood). Flashing the computer could be as easy as what you're doing (resetting by disconnecting the battery), or it may involve a more detailed process including diagnostic software. It's most likely though that what you are doing is all that's required - disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or so puts the ECU back into learn mode, and it basically starts fresh to relearn the engine's operating parameters.
