That is because of the vehicle theft deterrent system ! Do you have a security light lit on the instrument cluster ?
The Passlock?"¢ System is provided in order to prevent vehicle theft if the ignition lock cylinder is forced to rotate or the ignition switch is operated while separated from the ignition lock cylinder case. If starting is attempted without authorization from the Passlock?"¢ System, the powertrain control module (PCM) will disable engine starting. Start disable may be in the form of fuel disable or starter disable, depending on engine application.
The components of the Passlock?"¢ System are as follows:
?€¢
The ignition lock cylinder and key

?€¢
The ignition lock cylinder case, including the Passlock?"¢ sensor

?€¢
The ignition switch

?€¢
The body control module (BCM)

?€¢
The security indicator on the instrument cluster

?€¢
The powertrain control module (PCM)

Ignition Lock Cylinder Case, Including the Passlock?"¢ Sensor
The ignition lock cylinder fits inside the ignition lock cylinder case and operates the ignition switch when turned by a key with the proper mechanical cut. When the ignition key is used to turn the ignition lock cylinder to crank, start, a magnet on the lock cylinder passes close to the Passlock?"¢ sensor within the ignition lock cylinder case. The magnet activates the security hall effect sensor in the Passlock?"¢ sensor which completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit. The resistance value will vary from vehicle to vehicle.
If a magnet from outside of the ignition lock cylinder case is used to attempt to steal the vehicle, the tamper hall effect sensor will be activated. This completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a tamper resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit bypassing the security resistor. If the ignition switch is forced to rotate without the correct key, or if the ignition lock cylinder is removed by force, the Passlock?"¢ sensor will be damaged and will not operate.

SOURCE: 2001 cavalier barely starts, sometimes runs

Three things.
First, you need to check the MAF sensor for contamination.

Second, check fuel pressure, if you dont have a gauge, autozone and Advance have them on their tool loaner program.
Should see 35-40 psi with key on engine off, cycle key a few times, if it takes a while to build up, replace filter and retest.

Third, possible convertor blockage, easiest check is to remove the 02 sensor and try to start with the hole open, if it runs, then that is it, specs allow for 2-3 lbs of back pressure max. That means if you can hear pressure escaping, it is a problem area.

SOURCE: 2007 Trailblazer starting problem

you should take it to your local garage or dealer and have them hook it on a computer that would be cheaper in the long run for you because from what you are describeing it could be a list of things.

SOURCE: 2006 Trailblazer won't start

I have had a similar problem with my 06 Trailblazer SS. Took it to the dealer and apparently this is a common occurrence. They replaced my key cylinder and explained that this was because the cylinder was intermittently not completing the start circuit. It seemed to work after that. Now in the dead of winter I am having more starting issues with the vehicle.

SOURCE: 2006 chevy trailblazer will not start/turn over,

Sounds like the starter is the culprit, when the brushes in it are almost gone they will work intermittently and if the brushes aren't touching then you won't even get a click because of the lack of ground for the pull in portion of the starter solenoid winds. The next time it won't start, give the starter a tap or two to confirm this.It should start if i'm right. The starter is under the passengers side just to the rear of the front tire, bolted to the bell housing.

How would i check to see if my fuel pump in going out on my 2006 Chevy trailblazer? What are some of the symptoms?

If you have a way to check the fuel pressure, that's a good starting point. I'm not sure if a 2006 Trailblazer has a fuel filter or not, but if it does, you should consider replacing that to make sure that's not the cause of the symptoms. Often the symptoms of a failing fuel pump are long starter cranking times before the engine starts, or the engine won't start at all. Additionally, a cold engine may start just fine, but after driving for a bit, shutting off the engine, then starting it again within a few minutes, the engine will fail to start. The duration of the short rest would be something like running in to do some grocery shopping, etc.

Just replaced the battery with a new purchased-at-dealer Honda OEM battery. The car starts right and within 2-3 seconds it shuts off with the "key" light flashing for the theft deterrent system....

SYSTEM ARMS AFTER SWITCHING IGNITION OFF, SWITCH IGNITION ON, IMMOBOLIZER WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATES FOR A FEW SECONDS,IF IMMOBOLIZER WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATES FOR A FEW SECONDS THEN FLASHES RAPIDLY,KEY CODE NOT RECOGNIZED, REMOVE KEY AND TRY AGAIN,IF THIS PROCEDURE FAILS.THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE TO REPROGRAM KEYS AND THE IMMOBOLIZER.

Is it possible for the new brake light switch i got from NAPA to be bad? It worked for about 5 minutes then started to beep again when i got up in the AM. now it sometimes works for like 5 seconds then...

It's possible but not likely. I would check the wiring to it, next.
If it is bad, then take the switch back to NAPA, and I'm sure they will replace within 30 days or so.

My car wont stay running

Does the engine die as soon as you release the key, or does it run for a couple of seconds after you release the key and then die? If it dies as soon as you release the key, try holding the key for a few seconds and see if it will stay running as long as you are holding the key (the starter will make a grinding sound while holding the key but won't hurt anything). If it stays running while you hold the key then dies when you release it, that indicates that the ignition switch is bad.
