Its my belief that stereos in vehicles can become corrupted by maleware code. Do you play mp3, ipod, or burned cds in the stereo. I broke my factory stereo when I played a burned cd once. The market is ripe for virus and maleware protection for your car stereo so don't be surprised if you see virus protection and their virus creating friends on the scene soon. "Try reseting the stereo". You can also try to pull the ground to the car battery for 2 minutes but you will have to let the car idle for 10 minutes after you reconnect the post to set the idle correctly and let the car essentially reboot. Also jump starting a vehicle could cause malfunctions in the stereo if not breaking the electronics inside, very likely in the colder climates.
This is not a fuse problem, it may be a dirty laser lens or a broken loading mechanism, buy a CD player cleaner disk, if that won't work you will have to pull the unit out and send it in for repair at an authorized GM electronics repair station.
If you are still having problems removing the stereo box from the dash, remove the two cap-head screws located above the AC controls/below the stereo control panel and give the top and bottom of the panel a gentle tug and you'll be able to remove the entire dash panel with the stereo enclosure installed. Retainer pins located behind the panel hold it in place to the dashboard assembly. My OEM 6-disc CD unit finally started to malfunction, indicating that all 6 slots are full when there are actually no slots filled. Can't load a CD nor can I convince it that the ghost CDs can be ejected. Its time for an aftermarket replacement/upgrade.
