THIS IS WITH THE FLOATING RELAYS ALSO TKS
Fuse box diagram (inside car) is on the back side of the door.
Diagram for relay and fuse box under hood, should be on the under side of the lid.
for my 96 golf GL 2.0 is different not all 96 are the same base setups. My fuses & relays is under the dashboard. The only thing under my hood and it is a stock setup so everything should be where it should be and i don't have any relay fuses under the hood, only my FCU(fan control unit) that has a 20a that sits under the expansion bottle(coolant bottle) which was the most worst idea to place an electronic hardware under a liquid container that can leak when it does, will make the FCU go BONKERS.
I'm so sorry, I must have had my mercedes in my head. So, the relays are on the same panel/space as the fuses. I will post pic from my book this evening when I get home. Again, I'm so sorry.
Forgot to check my book, but found this.https://fusesdiagram.com/volkswagen/fuse...

When you open the driver door does the little light in the door panel come on. Or do you notice if the dome light comes on when set to door open setting? If it's a gli it has electric door locks and remote. If they don't come on with the door open the door is not sensing being opened by the microswitches in the latch. When you unlock the door with the remote and open the door without putting your key in the ignition the doors probally will relock (just make sure the key isn't in the car alone) about 15 seconds later. A normal effect as safety when the door isn't opened the car will relock. If this is the situation you can start by checking the wiring in the accordian between the door and frame for cut wires and the connections in the kick panel behind the hood release, but 99% of the time it is a defective latch.
SOURCE: how to remove transmission , how to replace reverse gear?
Are you sure that it is gone? make sure the all the bushing on the transmission are good it maybe that it is not able to go all the way in gear. If you do need to take it out get a good manual "Bentley" are the best it will show you the inside of the transmission too. Haynes are also good but not for working on the transmission it self
