I recall some previous posts here about that on similar year gm vehicles. There are many youtube videos about bypasses and fixes. The easiest and cheapest is to make a resistor pack from radio shack, or similar, now they are bankrupt. What you do is find the resistance value of the chip in your key (there are like 15 different values), then make up a resistor pack that equals that and install it in the steering column, in the appropriate wires, and then you can use a regular key in the ignition. I'm sure this is not the only option. A company called newrockies was making a bypass module for about $200, that totally bypassed the Theft Deterrent Module, the heart of the (pricey) GM theft deterrent system. Just google, or do a little research online, you will find a lot.

On mine I bypassed it with this solution after it was locked down for weeks: http://newrockies.ca/vatsbypass . This one will bypass the entire system and not only the key and lock cylinder. I wanted to kick the whole system out of my car and never hear about it anymore.
