SOURCE: camshaft position sensor

This V-6 has a very hard to find/hard to reach CKP - it is directly under the Distributor, about 4 inches below, inwards toward the Transaxle "bell". Almost dead-center in the back of the engine.
Your going to have to take the Air Filter and the air manifold that runs to the engine off. After that, take off the horn assembly to gain very, very limited access to wedge an extended ratchet into the bowels of the engine.
I think the same socket that undid the horn assembly fit the CKP nut. It takes 10 minutes to undo the bolt a couple ratchet clicks at a time, at least 15 to get the thing to wiggle out, probably 15 minutes to unconnect, reconnect, and snap back to the fram the wire harness, and at least another 10 minutes to ratchet the bolt back in click by click.

Now you know why they say shops charge $500 in to do this - I think they must take the entire engine out... Very painstaking job that requires patience and precision... but quite satisfying to finish it yourself.

Good luck and hope this helps,

SOURCE: 1999 chrysler 300m wont crank, code P0340

Sounds like the timing belt broke. Unfortunately this vehicle was not equiped with no contact valves so if that is the case you will need to have the engine and Head rebuilt. If the crank position sensor can't sense the position of the crank it should shutdown the electrical to keep you from damaging your engine.

SOURCE: change cam position sensor chy

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Detach the electrical harness connector from the camshaft position sensor.
  3. Unfasten the camshaft position sensor mounting bolt. There is a hole in the bracket for tool access to the sensor mounting bolt.
  4. Rotate the sensor away from the engine block.
  5. Pull the camshaft position sensor up out of the chain case cover. Do not pull on the sensor wire.
There is an O-ring on the sensor case. The O-ring may make removal of the sensor difficult. A light tap on top of the sensor prior to removal may reduce the force needed for removal. Inspect the O-ring for damage and replace if necessary.
To install:
If the sensor removed is going to be re-installed, clean off the old spacer on the sensor face. A new spacer must be attached to the sensor face before installation. If the sensor is being replaced, be sure that a paper spacer is attached to the sensor face and an O-ring is positioned in the groove of the new sensor.
  1. Apply 1-2 drops of clean engine oil to the O-ring prior to installing the sensor.
  2. Install the sensor into the chain case cover and rotate into position.
  3. Push down on the sensor until contact is made with the camshaft gear. While holding the sensor in this position, install and tighten the mounting bolt to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  4. Attach the electrical harness connector to the camshaft position sensor.
  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Chrysler 300M p1391 code misfires when hot.

From research Chrysler is having a lot of this same problem. If it were another vehicle I would say it's either ignition module or pickup coils going bad. Some vehicles have had problems with wires to pickup coils (Hall effect coils) getting hot and shorting due bad wire insulation. One cause is oil or dirt getting on pickup coils, cam position sensor, also if cam is worn and moving any that will affect the gap between sensor and cam. You didn't say how many miles were on the car.

I got code p0340 cam shaft positioning sensor on my 1999 300m. where is the sensor located in the car?

It should be on the top of the front timing cover. that is at the front of the engine probably in the center. It will have a two wire harness attached and it is held on by one bolt.

2001 300m wont start changed fuel pump turns over but will not start any ideas

is there a spark at the leads? check leads, coil, crank or cam position sensors, e.c.m in that order. if there is a spark and the new pump's fitted correctly, check for fuel blockages along fuel line, if injectors are opening, air flow sensor.
or alternatively have a reliable technician put it on a diagnising machine. i'm sure you'll agree that it would save alot of time and effort
