Sarah, The Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor on your Kia is located below rad hose driver side by exhaust manifold. May be a good time to flush coolant system when changing sensor.

Leave it off if your in a hotter clime ,refit only in lattitudes where you get cold and snow ,now leave it alone and have a cup of tea and a ciggy then go back to it and you will see it straight away
The nut size on sensor is 19 to 20mm on 2002 ba 6 cylinder ford falcon coolant sensor back of head. Cut down tube spanner drill 2 X 6mm holes insert long shaft skinny screwdriver as lever insulate taped to hold to get started to undo normal right hand thread. Then use 19 mm ring when undone a few turns ,
heres a diagram to show you where the coolant temp sensor is located, its behind the alternator on the left side (driverside),the sensor just unplug the connector and then unscrew it and out it comes.
