I was thinking maybe the radiatior is plugged please help me troubleshoot this problem
First are you sure it's overheating? You could have a faulty temp sensor.
Second, there is no cap on the radiator, and I don't know what would be accomplished looking in the overflow tank. Check the thermostat as suggested, and the radiator temperature from top to bottom - you should feel a small temperature gradient across it. If there is a big difference between the top and bottom, it's blocked. If it is an air block, the air will eventually find its way out of the system after a few short trips at operating temperature and the coolant level in the tank will drop dramatically - you must keep the fluid level topped up after each trip if this is the case. Otherwise, you will probably need a rad replacement.
In any case, it's wise to have the entire system flushed (as your heater rad and small bypass pipes and hoses could also be affected), and then every 2-4 years afterwards with coolant replaced each time with new universal type.
When its cold remove the rad cap, start it up, put your heater blower on full and full heat on, then when the engine gets hot look inside the rad you should see the water flowing. If its not flowing feel the top of the thermostat housing/rad hose it should be nice and hot, it its not your stat is not opening. Are you sure you got the correct temp stat for this car? Was it properly installed and is the system full with no air in it? You can also get a melt stick from your local Napa, making sure its the right temp stick for your car, put it on the stat housing and see if it melts. If it does and you still have no flow either its stuck closed, or its the wrong temp stat.
