My brake lights wouldn't go out one day, so I unplug the battery went and got a brake switch put it on, now my SUV won't get in gear and sometimes won't crank "HELP ME PLEASE"
On the brake light switch check the harness sometimes it gets to hot and terminals won't make contact they open up. Try wiggling the brake switch harness while pressing brake with other hand truck running or key on engine off and listen for solenoid clicking everytime you press the brakes.
I went off your primary post of brake lights staying on replace switch now won't go in to gear (stuck in parking)

Charge the batteries. take a Reading to make sure that you are getting almost 14v to both batteries. If it is not charging then take the alternator back off and have them check it. you might have bought a bad one. There is a way to test the glow plus with out taking them out. ( Take a piece of wire long enough to reach all the glow plugs from the battery. unplug the glow plug wire.If you touch the end of the glow plug with the hot wire it should make a little spark. if no spark then the glow plug is bad. do this to each one, but one at a time)

Hello
The engine
and transmission in this cars drive train are fully
electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train
Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer
stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions
to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and
MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory,
to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned
with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must
perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the
problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN
HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPEDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON
PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

if your starter is working but not turning the motor over it could be that you need to replace your flywheel/flexplate you could have some broken teeth

Climb under the driver's side of the dashboard with a flashlight and box wrench set.
Shine the flashlight on the Windstar's brake pedal arm to illuminate the brake switch. Unplug the brake light circuit connector from the brake switch.
Unbolt the Windstar's brake switch from its mounting bracket with the box wrench set.
Bolt the Windstar's replacement brake switch onto the bracket with the box wrench set.
Plug the brake light circuit connector into the brake switch
