I have 05 Nissan altim. Sometimes when I start it it makes a loud ticking noise that sounds like it's coming from behind the glovebox & when it does this it takes off slow. Sometimes it will stop after awhile & other times it won't stop. It doesn't do this all the time. Could it be cause I need the transmission serviced?

Not likely, sounds to me like a bad Fuel Pump relay, that when operating correctly controls the fuel pump. Based on what the ECU tells it the amount of fuel it needs.

One of my vehicles started making a rather disturbing sound so I went to investigate and to hopefully fix it.
Sounds to me like Blend door actuator arm or something behind the radio got a hold of the wiring, Either cut or yanked it out. I would pull the radio to start. Hope this helps,Good luck Randy.
Does it sound like the noise the turn signal makes? Does the noise change if you change the speed of the blower motor? Do all the function of the heater work (defrost, vent, floor, recirculate, fresh air, hot, cold)?
If sound comes from under the dash, it might be an hvac actuator that is having a problem? Sometimes you can put your hand on it and feel the vibration? Sometimes with a relay, you can do the same thing.
Are you sure its not an exhaust leak ..? They can sometimes sound like a ticking noise and the noise will change with temperatures of engine.. ? also if you can borrow a stethicope from someone which is used in automotive repair alot (different than what your doctor uses) this will help you pinpoint the problem .. It sounds to me with out hearing it you have a loose rocker arm possably .. If this is the case this is a easy fix and very inexpensive. just figure which side its coming from take the valve cover off and tighten it till it stops ticking and then give it 1/4 turn.
