Problem with hot wiring the ignition is that the vehicle will start and run but with out turning the ignition the steering wheel will be locked > I suggest a new ignition switch , you can always hammer a flat head screw driver in the ignition were the key goes and turn the ignition. Either way you will need a new ignition switch .

    Everybody stop now your wrecking your car the only way to get a pats ignition to work is by programming new keys into the system by a locksmith or a dealer destroying the lock cylinder or a new cylinder will not work unless the chip key is programed into the system you must now buy a new cylinder that has a pats key then programming must be done the chip key is recognized by the receiver which now sends an ok signal to the ecm for the engine to start it's an immobilized system and will not work any other way so stop listening to ill knowledgeable people your wrecking your car you can not hot wire this system if you do in seconds you will fry your ecm to add more problems and expensive repairs that were not needed oh boy were do these people get there information from very bad information I think they just like to hear themselves talk and should be a balloon man at the circus not car information providers here please call a locksmith to fix what you have wrecked from a very poor answer provided by someone

SOURCE: 1999 ford taurus starter will not engage

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

To my knowledge, you assumption is correct on most designs. That wire should go to the ignition switch and will be hot when key is in START. However, same wire often would be connected first to a relay that is interlocked with some conditions/status other then key to START. They would be:

  • automatic transmission should be in neutral/park with light indicated;
  • alarm/security/immobilizer is inactive/OFF.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

SOURCE: lost keys

Take you ID, and your title or registration to your local ford dealer; they will cut you set of keys. It will cost you about $100.00 for the set, but a locksmith won't do it any cheaper for you either.
