How dependable is the Mercedes 722.6 transmission?

Mercedes. From the bottom. You have to fill it at the bottom also. Depends on you r transmission where and how to fill it. Some on the pan, some at the passenger side of the transmission. some you can fill from the top, but takes a dip stick and scanner to get correct.

on most cars, you need to change the neutral safety switch. this car has a neutral parking position sensor, you can find it for v6 not v8, it also fits a saab 9-3. it is the same thing, a different style. however, check the transmission fluid level and troublecodes for p07xxs. reset the code and use the transmission dipstick by dorman add lucas auto trans fluid, not stop slip to the fill line. most of the time it's not the solenoid, but the auto trans plate, overfilling the fluid can cause it to trigger a check engine light, and the fluid leaking onto it can cause it to be permanently damaged, it's more than $400 for the part. lucas works in the 722.xx transmissions, most , all, clks 99-2002, just make sure the tranny model isn't a 238. i like it better than atf 134. However, these parts are very heat sensitive. fill the trans fluid, reset the troublecodes, do a general motos drive cycle from obdii.com if it doesn't drive good after four times, change the neutral safety switch. :)

I don't know why they did this, But other manufacturers are going this way. The consumer can't check the transmission fluid. They have to go to a shop. You can get the stick online. Yours at operating temps are 16 to 17, or 160 to 170, depending on the stack you get. The stick is cable with a metal piece on the end. Push it down until it bottoms out. If you shove it to far/ force it. You have to remove the oil pan to get it out.

Approved Mercedes Benz fluid only is recommended...the capacity and filter will depend on the type of transmission you have... 722.6 or 722.9

The "C" is for comfort mode and the "S" is for sport mode. While in comfort mode the transmission will start off in second gear and switch gears at a lower rpm. In sport mode the transmission will start off in first gear and allow shifts at a higher rpm. The car will always be in one of these modes depending on which one you select.

Depends on what type of transmission are you driving on, if it is the so called economy, than it is not but if you have a sport on than yes it is normal.
