I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum R/T 5.7 .The ETC light keeps coming on , no matter what my mechanic does . He thinks he has it fixed , and it is fine for a day or two then starts acting up again . What can I do...

If you get a constant or flashing ETC lamp, there should be a stored throttle code in powertrain. (ECM). That fault will give the technician a description of what the ECM *thinks* it sees that it doesnt like. usually its correct. If it says signal shorted to ground it probably is, if it says signal open it probably is. HOWEVER, all this is very dependent on stability of electronic signals. No corrosion, good clean battery cables and fully charged battery. Understand that electronic throttle is a very sensitive system because it has to make sure it doesnt accelerate you into another car because of errors. SO, if everything isnt PERFECT, it will set faults and revert to limp mode in serious cases. Even 1 degree of throttle mismatch, or a 1/100th time disparity between 2 related signals will be deemed unacceptable!

if he keeps fixing stuff and the problem keeps returning, he is missing something. There are truly only 4 checks on most throttle systems. 1 - pull fault codes and idle data for throttle system and see if any obvious particular faults exist and repair those 1st. 2 - powers and grounds and plug connections clean and with proper voltages/voltage drops to pedal and throttle. 3 - throttle clean and moving freely with key off, and good spring return tension. 4 - all data pids graph cleanly in proper voltage ranges during a harness wiggle test and unit "tap" test (may take 2 people). If it passes all 4 of those, in most cases you have an internal problem in the throttle itself, or the ECM. often the tap test will show you unit faults, but noit always. eliminate wiring and voltage and ground availability. if those are good, the problem is internal to the ecm or the throttle.

How do you clean the electronic throttle control

have 2005 Dodge Magnum and the ETC light goes on and my car dies down when...

one 'trick' you should try: put the key in the "on" position, but don't start the car. Depress the gas pedal full to the floor, and then let go, all within 2 seconds. You should hear a "ding" sound indicating that the pedal travel distance has been reset in the PCM. Pedal position is electronically sensed at all engine conditions, and a misread can trigger the ETC code. You'll want to do this reset after you clean the throttle body, but try it first anyhow.

2007 dodge magnum idles too high and shuts off

Check connection to the idle air control on your throttle body. The iac has a plunger that moves in & out causing idle change. If the throttle body is dirty it restricts the iac plunger travel. Tru seafoam in your gas to clean fuel injection system. Follow directions on cam! Run the complete tank to clean system. Note: you will need to change fuel filter when done.
Reset computer by disconnecting - battery terminal for 20 mins or more.

Red lightning bolt light

I would say it is the warning light for the electronic throttle control which you had cleaned.
The description should be in your owners manual.

You don't, it is electronically controlled
by the computer

You have other issues effecting the idle
that need to be addressed

If you have some type of idle air control valve

Can Spray Throttle Body with CRC Throttle Body
Cleaner, but doubt it will do anything

The electronic throttle control light is on in my dodge magnum and my car is stalled what do I do to fix it?

Your throttle pedal is electronic and not controled by cables anymore. So there is sensor that sense's what postion your throttle body needs to be opened or closed. The sensor probably needs to be replaced.

The whole pedal assembly will have to come out and be replaced as it is all one unit. They are easy to take out. I learned about these at the SRT Track Expereince when the Charger that I was driving stopped having so much go and the ETC light came on. They showed us how to replace them and told us that they have to replace them all the time and keep them in stock due to people mashing the pedal. It is all plastic and you don't have to mash these like the old system.

You can try resetting the ETC as well. Place your car in the run position without starting and depress the gas pedal and release all in 2 seconds (1 down and 1 up). You should hear a confirmation "ding" if done correctly and you have know reset the sensor to know when you have open throttle.

You are still safe to drive your vehicle but you need to get it fixed or you are not going to get good performance.

The Electronic Throttle Control light came on in my 2005 Dodge Magnum RT. What does this mean and a range of cost

This problem can sometimes occur due to dirt entering the throttle assembly. It can bring codes on relating to forced engine shutdown, which sounds dramatic at best. Normally a good cleaning of the throttle valve assembly cures this fault. It happens because the system fails to see throttle response or closure within parameters. This should be your first action to take, rather than spending money needlessly... Hope this helped?
