I have a 2002 galant that needs a new heating coil. I was not too concerned about this where I was living. I have recently moved to a colder location and I would like to get the heater coil put in. Does anyone now an approx. price range? I was once quoted about $400 but that was about two years ago.

Are you talking about heater core? My labor info for 3.0L galant says 5.8 hrs. So the cost depends on what the shop charges for labor? If a shop charges 100 bucks an hour, that is almost 600 bucks and that's labor. Parts are extra.

SOURCE: thermostat located at on a 2002 mitsubishi galant

Follow the bottom hose leading from the radiator to the back of the engine. You need to disconnect the battery and remove it and the panel it sits on in order to get to the thermostat housing.

SOURCE: My 2002 Mits Galant has

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable).

Otherwise, check the coils (coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Try it and keep us updated.

SOURCE: Where is the heater shut

The part you need is a dealer stocking part. There is an electric motor that turns heater core on and off. It's located under the dash to the left of the glove box. If you unhook the top of the glove box (push it to one side and gently pull it down) you should see it to the left of the blower motor housing. Some disassembly required.
The part will cost about $120 to $180. part number is #MR958603. I saved money by purchasing it on line. It is a stocking part at most Mitsubishi dealers. Once you pull the glove box out and remove the bottom half of the dash all the way across, you should be able to gain access to the motor to replace it. Caution: if you do not put everything back in correctly and tie/tape it all back down carefully in the correct places you will have lots of under the dash noises when you are done. I do not think there is much chance for a recall on a car that is so old. It is not uncommon for an 8 year old part fail. Some Galant owners were able to get there cars repainted when the clear coat came off. But again, it is too late for the rest of us.

2002 mitsubishi galant runs fine 15 min. wont start wait 20min it will start

As with any no start issue, you will need to figure out if you are dealing with a no spark or no fuel pressure problem to proceed.
I would check those things the next time it will not start.
Could be a relay, coil, sensor, or other component.

95 grand cherokee straigt 6 cyl replaced coil 3 times in 2weeks. now i have no spark out of coil ut have 12 vots to coil what makes coil burn out? or some other problem?

How does it run when you put the new coil in? Check the positive wire with the ignition off. You shouldn't have any voltage present. Check positive side wiring to ground ( without it connected to the coil ) to make sure you don't have a weak short to ground. Also you can buy coils that have a heat shield built in to prevent the coil from over heating. If you have anymore questions or concerns feel free to ask and I'll answer as soon as I can.
