ill pretend you said year is 1998, are the front wheel touching a curb, if you wiggle the steering wheel at the same time as you turn the key , does the lock release? what do you replace, the whole, assembly or just the tumbler (key) or just the switch part?

Position the oblong hole in the steering shaft so that it is visible thorough, and in the center of the hole in the steering column. Install ignition switch to column with the ignition key still in the ON position. Turn the key to the LOCK position and remove the key from the ignition switch. Align the ignition switch hub with the oblong hole in the steering shaft. Rotate the shaft to ensure that the steering shaft is locked. Install new break-away head bolts to ignition switch and tighten until break-away heads break off. Turn ignition key to ON position and check that the shaft rotates smoothly. Remove the column from vise. Install steering column assembly as follows: Insert lower joint into upper joint of steering column by matching it to marks made before removal. With A/T vehicle, connect shift (key) interlock cable to ignition switch with ignition switch turned to ACC position. And then turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Tighten its cable screw. Install steering column assembly to lower and upper brackets. Torque steering column upper nuts first to 11 ft. lbs. (14 Nm) and then lower nuts to 11 ft. lbs. (14 Nm). Install bolt to steering shaft upper joint and tighten it to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm). NOTE After tightening column nuts, bolt to steering shaft upper joint should be tightened. Install steering joint upper cover. Connect three connectors for ignition switch wire harness to junction/fuse block. If contact coil and combination switch assembly is removed, install contact coil and combination switch assembly. If contact coil and combination switch assembly is not removed, follow the procedures: Connect three connectors for contact coil and combination switch wire harness to junction/fuse block. Connect yellow connector (for air bag) and white connector (for auto cruise, optional). Fix wire harness with clamp and band. Install knee bolster panel and hole cover. Install steering wheel, if necessary. Connect the negative battery cable. Enable air bag system.

SOURCE: 1998 suzuki esteem 1.6 will not start HELP!

Having good fuel pressure is a plus (yours seems a bit high but I don't have specs) What you need to find out is if the injectors are opening and putting the fuel into the engine so it can work. Are the plugs wet with fuel or dry? Does it fire up if you spray carb cleaner into the throttle body while cranking?

Testimonial: "thanks for quick reply..will pull plugs and inspect..wow what a great site!"

Where can I locate a at friends for a 99 Suzuki Esteem

you want to buy an ESteem, why?
Suzuki is dead. (USA and Canada )
i why buy a near Yugo status car?
this rare car , most the parts on car are not sold by the aftermarked (underdog)
and suzuki shut down here, no new car sales.
and there parts supply is collapsing at a fast rate, due to no car dealers and just 2 online sales points. (weak, and no parts drawings...there, poor support !!!)
they also list most parts now as discontinued.
so why own this car.?

why not (if underdog cars are cool?)
buy a GEO Prizm , at least all the parts are Toyota Corolla and sold 100% all parts.

Esteems are no good. due to above facts.
unless its just a toy and down time is of no matter... "truth"

What is code 451 on a 98 suzuki esteem?

1.6L or 1.8L
400s are evap or EGR.

EVAP Pressure Sensor Range/Performance

reset it, tighten the gas cap, and see if 451 come back.
or a new cap if it leaks.
if not that, then the EVAP venting system needs pressure checking next. (takes tools to fix cars so....) get it serviced.

1998 Suzuki Esteem

You can try some starting fluid sprayed inside the air cleaner box.
An engine needs 4 basic elements air, gas, spark and compression.
It is a good idea to test for all 4.
