Where do the check balls get placed in the valve body of transmission?

I have the valve body apart and need to know where these little steel balls get placed inside the valve body to make sure it is put back together properly. They call them check balls.

How to replace neutral safety switch

On the 1998 Town and Country, the neutral safety switch is inside the transmission . If you are not of the faint of heart, remove the bottom transmission pan and the lower valve body (do not loose any springs or little shiny steel balls), take the old one out and put the new one in and make sure to put the valve body in. The part costs around $50.00. A reputable shop will do it for less than $300.00.

I REMOVED THE VALVE BODY TO INSTALL A NEUTRAL SAFTY SWITCH AND WHEN I DID THREE I GUESS BEARINGS FELL OUT. I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY GO.

Those are valve body check balls and they must be put back in the proper place for the transmission to function properly. Try not to panic. If you look closely at the passages in the valve body, you will probably notice that some of the them have small indentations beside them. If you find passages with this difference in the same number as the check balls, then install them and then install the valve body by lifting it straight up and carefully aligning it with the transmission housing before making contact with it. Good luck with your effort. I hope this information has been helpful and thank you for trying Fixya.com.

1999 escort solenoid on transmission is it a difficult fix?

its inside the transmission and requires removing the valve body now this is where most people make the mistake and loose a bunch of little check balls dont and i mean dont turn the valve body upside down when you unbolt it and when you go to put it back on if your having problems with the check balls staying put try using a lil vaseline its tranny safe.

My 1989 chevy blazer goes into neutral instead of third gear and overdrive. 1st and 2nd gear work fine. What could cause this? Is it my torque converter or transmission?

You could pull the trans pan and remove the valve body, and clean.

Not the converter,it is there to build pressure, to supply the valve body and apply fluid to clutch drums, that apply pressure on the clutches for each gear.

If you do remove the valve body to clean, you will need a picture of where the check balls go,when you replace it. Put assy trans lube or vasoline on balls to hold in place. Your working upside down unfortunately.

If the shift valves are free,no sediment, your out of options, unless a servo valve is hung up and doesn't apply a band. They out it comes, and you take it apart,to find the issues

Don't recall solenoids, other than for converter lock-up, back in 1989. Someone else may add to my theory.
