My 2002 Mitsubishi Montero sport won't beep when lock with the remote. Can hear the locks click though and lights don't flash. what is wrong?

could be any number of break problems, it is just telling you that the breaks need checking and before something fails.

OK. Went through this just now. It's in the owners manual page 2-7.
1. Press the LOCK button on the remote for 4 to 10 seconds and press the UNLOCK button during this time.
2. Release the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time.

This is done without the key in the ignition.

Shift into 4H for now, the light should stop flashing and then replace the freewheel clutch solenoid located under the air box at the fenderwell.
